Job Summary: The Accountant II prepares, reconciles, and audits budgets. Prepares financial reports, invoices, schedules, and/or statements. Completes journal entries. Reviews, analyzes, and approves expenditures. Determines fund balances. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, University policies, and procedures. Provides guidance and trains entry-level accountants.

Additional Department Summary: Assists the Director of Financial Affairs in the College of Engineering to organize and coordinate the services that fall under the financial umbrella of the College. Processes and perform all aspects of accounting and budgeting for the college including the review of monthly reconciliations and reports, submit the majority of faculty and staff ePAs for the college, and oversee all procurement functions for the college to ensure University purchasing guidelines are followed. Handles salary budgets, reviews departmental budget reports, and assists with routine financial reconciliations and report preparation. Oversees all aspects of the budget accounting process. Reviews and implements policy and procedure updates. Assists with the development of internal processes to ensure compliance with policies and procedures as directed by the University, Finance and Operations, Academic Affairs, and College of Engineering.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, finance, business, or related financial field and two (2) years of accounting experience; OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Skills and Knowledge: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Self-motivated and able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively. Proficient in advanced spreadsheet and database operations. Ability to utilize online financial systems (Banner). Ability to work with faculty and staff on various projects and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic setting and an environment of constant growth and change. Ability to analyze and interpret complex data. Ability to research and prepare comprehensive reports. Ability to work independently at a rapid pace with numerous interruptions. Ability to cope with stressful conditions. Ability to demonstrate tact, versatility, and adaptability. Ability to demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation and directional initiative.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Banner, Concur, and buyBama within Academic Affairs.
