Hopkins Public Schools This is a new position funded out of the Capital Projects Levy and is expected to be a revenue positive through their work identifying and updating internal processes and working with families in the aim of preventing the loss of, or from the recovery of CPL funded technology such as student issued devices and related CPL funded materials and work to ensure connectivity for vulnerable populations.

SUMMARY:
Provides family support services with the goal of ensuring access to technology for all students through recovery of technology resources from students exiting and entering the system as well as with families to support educational technology and addressing educational barriers that may be related to technology.

Secondarily, provides a wide spectrum of social work services, including crisis response and social/emotional skill instruction related to technology; connects students and families to appropriate community and school-based resources as necessary, and acts as a part of the district social worker team in support of crisis response.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaboratively builds and maintains a robust student experience for families as students transition out of Hopkins with counselors, social workers, and school administrators to ensure a smooth transition, setting a student up for success in their next educational experience.
  • Leads district efforts to retain devices in district for students in educational transition.
  • Leads district efforts to recover devices from students and families who have transitioned to another educational experience.
  • Supports families in establishing and maintaining home connectivity.
  • Connects students and families with basic needs resources; communicates, problem solves, and shares information with county, state, and federal partners in partnership with the Hennepin County Office of Broadband and Digital Inclusion as a part of 'whole support' for the family.
  • Coordinates with district Digital Literacy Specialists and Technology Integration Specialists in development and delivery of Digital Citizenship information for students and families.
  • Supports positive relationships for students with technology, including social issues related to technology.
  • Works in partnership with district liaisons in being connected with services to support students and families.
  • Facilitates return of technology to educational institutions students and families are arriving from.
  • Assists with identification and intervention for students at risk of truancy and/or dropping in support of device collection.
  • Provides direct social/emotional evidence based and culturally responsive intervention for students; consults with staff regarding support and interventions for students, interpreting behaviors for staff.
  • Participates as a resource for restorative practices practitioners, specializing in technology related items including social issues and damage to hardware.
  • Collaborates with community mental health providers and case managers related to technology.
  • Prepares Child Protective Services referrals reporting abuse and neglect concerns, specializing in technology related cases.
  • Promotes and supports the overall mission of the District by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.


QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in social work with a preference for candidates with a Masters of Social Work and an LICSW license

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.
  • Driver's license.
  • Licensed as a School Social Worker by MDE.

Work is performed in a school environment, using standard equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

  • Travel required to locations throughout the District.
