Job Summary:

The Costing Accountant for Logistics and Warehousing is responsible for analyzing and monitoring all costs related to the logistics and warehousing operations of the trading company. This role involves maintaining financial records, performing cost analyses, and developing cost-saving strategies to optimize operational efficiency and profitability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Logistics and Warehouse Cost Analysis: Develop and maintain accurate cost tracking systems for all logistics and warehousing activities. Analyze costs related to transportation, storage, handling, and other logistics services to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Prepare and manage budgets for logistics and warehouse operations. Work closely with the logistics and warehouse teams to forecast costs based on operational metrics and market conditions.
  • Cost Reporting: Generate detailed monthly reports on logistics and warehouse costs, comparing actual expenses against budgeted and historical data. Highlight significant variances and provide actionable insights for cost control and reduction.
  • Operational Efficiency: Collaborate with logistics and warehouse managers to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to enhance operational efficiency without compromising service quality.
  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Support the financial planning process by providing insights into logistics and warehousing costs. Assist in strategic decisions, such as contract negotiations with logistics providers, warehouse space optimization, and investment in technology.
  • Inventory Management: Work with the inventory management team to ensure accurate costing of inventory holding, including costs associated with warehousing and logistics. Support inventory valuation and contribute to inventory management strategies.
  • Compliance and Internal Controls: Ensure adherence to financial policies, procedures, and controls related to logistics and warehousing expenses. Participate in audits and implement recommendations for compliance and process improvements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification (CPA, CMA, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in cost accounting, with a strong preference for experience in logistics, supply chain, or warehouse accounting.
  • Familiarity with logistics and warehousing operations and related cost structures.
Skills:
  • Proficient in accounting software and ERP systems, with the ability to adapt to new technologies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.
Working Conditions:
  • Primarily office-based, with the possibility of occasional visits to logistics centers or warehouses for operational understanding and collaboration.
  • Standard office hours, with flexibility required during monthly closings or budgeting periods.
