Every employee takes a person-centered approach that exemplifies the ICARE values (Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence) through empathic communication and partnerships between all persons.Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe Deputy Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and Patient Care Services of the Department of Nursing serve as a member of the management team, and participate in strategic planning and policy making.The Deputy CNO has experience in and fosters a collegial approach to problem solving.He/she facilitates the growth and development of the department within the institution to enable it to meet the needs of the community.SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Deputy Chief Nursing Officers clinical operations will be responsible for: Clinical Innovation Strategic Planning Nursing Resources as needed Other core responsibilities: Carries the System, hospital and Nursing Service mission, vision,values and the overall strategic plan to support the growth and business development, clinical management, patient care, budgeting, financial management and quality management within the service. Promotes core values, and functions as a key clinical leader, communicating regularly with nurse leaders and departmental administrators. Fosters an environment of collaboration and respect with physician colleagues, nurses and other healthcare team members.Standards Compliance: Maintains current knowledge of and acts proactively to ensure compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care, which includes TJC, CMS, IHI, CAP, etc. Utilizes creativity in developing quality/performance improvement programs, instructing Nursing Management and implementing new and improved standards. Utilizes "tracer" methodology as a management tool to ensure that quality of care is embedded into clinical practice on an ongoing basis.Operational Performance: Develops, prepares and monitors the personnel, supply and equipment budgets in collaboration with the Directors of Nurses, Assistant Directors of Nurses and support department directors. Develops strategic master staffing plans to ensure adequate staffing coverage in accordance with established productivity measures based on patient population needs. Develops, oversees and monitors service/unit operational performance metrics inclusive of LOS, agency and overtime costs, vacancy and turnover rates.Management of Nursing Service as a Service Line: Ensures that the overall planning process occurs for each unit within the service line. Analyzes findings from patient satisfaction survey to establish service-based customer services agenda and ensures that unit-based agendas are developed with input from the nursing management and the staff. Demonstrates self-development and keeps current on a variety of clinical management and health care topics by participation on a national and local level in professional associations and promotion of national agenda initiatives. Additional duties assigned.Minimum Qualifications1. Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN) issued by the New York State Education Department (NYSED); and2. A Master's Degree in Nursing Administration or a related field; and3. Six (6) years of satisfactory nursing experience, including four (4) years of progressive nursing management experience; or4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
