GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Medical Staff / CME Coordinator is a professional who coordinates a myriad of medical staff activities and serves as a liaison between the medical staff, ancillary departments and administration. Assists the Director in planning, organizing and accomplishing the activities of the Medical Staff Office. Facilitates methods/procedures to comply with accreditation and regulatory agencies. Performs administrative, secretarial and other related duties for the Medical Staff Department and Committees. This position may be responsible for coordinating Medical Staff processes including credentials verification, reappointments, and physician computer database management.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical/Service Responsibilities:

This position requires a minimum of three years experience
Responsible for assigned medical staff departments, divisions, and committee functions to ensure compliance with the Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules & Regulations, JCAHO and other regulatory agencies.
Responsible for preparing monthly calendars for Medical Staff meetings and distributing to Medical Staff and appropriate hospital depts.
Responsible for writing, editing and distribution of articles for newsletters
Oversees monitoring of Provisional members for submission of requiring proctoring; meeting attendance; activity etc. for advancement within or by the end of the Provisional period as specified in the Medical Staff bylaws.
Responsible for CME coordination.
Plans, coordinate and development of curriculum, objectives and materials for education and recognition activities, documents and records specifics to CME activities and meetings and ensures that all courses meet established standards and requirements
Coordinates meeting logistics (including housing, food, audio-visuals) for workshops, conferences, training sessions
Develop and manage program budgets
Developing and implementing

policies/procedures
Monitor/ensure compliance with accreditation standards
Oversee CME database (MD-STAFF) and the CME calendar and distribution
Develop and implement strategic plan for CME in conjunction with Administration and the Medical Executive Committee
Coordinates funding from pharmaceutical companies
Conducts ongoing evaluations and needs assessments
Facilitates all aspects of credentialing, including appointment reappointment, proctoring, privileges and provisional status for physicians and allied health practitioners
Represents administrative issues successfully to inspire collaboration between physicians and the hospital
Interfaces with the Quality Management Department and physicians to provide and interpret relevant data enabling identification of practitioners who may not meet the standards of care for the community
Guides the Medical Staff through corrective action proceedings and generates documentation to support the findings and process.

Unit/Dept. Responsibilities:

1. Knowledgeable in all current accreditation standards and Federal and State legal requirements
related to the medical staff organization.
2. Knowledge of current concepts in Medical Staff Services, management and organizational
skills.
3. Must be able to problem solve, communicate effectively, implement various systems and
methods, and maintain confidential information.
4. Must be able to interact positively with physicians, hospital personnel, and management
personnel.
5. Must be able to work independently, be self-directed and display good decision-making
abilities.
6. Participates in QI activities as required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

REQUIREMENTS:

Associate Degree in Medical Staff Services Science or have had equivalent courses, training and experience that includes medical terminology, computer knowledge and communication and writing skills.
A minimum of three years of experience in a hospital preferred with a background in medical staff services.
Certification by the National Association of Medical Staff Services preferred.
Evidence of continuing education in the designated areas of responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to meet the demands of an active position with the ability to move a minimum of 25 pounds.
Ability to maintain emotional stability and to understand how to effectively cope with stress during crisis situations.
Ability to exhibit effective written and verbal communication skills.
