The Senior Process Engineer is responsible for overseeing process design related to direct reduction plants and spearheading innovative technological initiatives. In this role, you will provide support to fellow process engineers and collaborate on various projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

While Senior Process Engineers do not have direct reports, they may assign tasks to other engineers and designers. As process discipline leads, they offer technical support for diverse projects and initiatives.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues on assignments, working towards consensus by finding solutions that align with the best interests of all parties involved.
  • Develop comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFDs).
  • Create gas, water, and solids mass and energy balances.
  • Generate Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and oversee their issuance.
  • Develop equipment and line lists, ensuring their accurate release.
  • Formulate duty specifications for equipment.
  • Conduct and document process calculations, establish standard calculation methods, and review calculations conducted by other process engineers.
  • Act as the Lead Process Engineer for assigned projects, taking direction from project management or other Chief Engineers as needed.
  • Evaluate both existing and new process designs, prioritizing safety considerations.
  • Participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) reviews and lead PHA reviews if appropriately trained.
  • Contribute to plant start-ups and participate in troubleshooting activities.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with chemical process simulators (e.g., Aspen Plus).
  • Certification as a Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) or HAZOP facilitator.
  • Professional Engineer registration (preferred).
  • Relevant industrial plant experience.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a technical or industrial environment, preferably within the steel industry, or a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in the Direct Reduction industry.
