Workforce Development Manager

The mission of KNOX is to connect and empower our communities to grow a greener, healthier Hartford.

The Workforce Development Manager will serve as the organizations leader in green jobs, overseeing an effective and robust workforce development program that prepares apprentices for meaningful employment. This includes program promotion, recruitment, orientation, ongoing professional development, and participant supervision/support. The person in this role is responsible for meeting program grant deliverables, with responsible fiscal management. In addition, the Workforce Development Manager is also responsible for hiring and supervising the seasonal golf course crew at Keney Park and Goodwin Park.

The Workforce Development Manager is expected to model KNOX’s organizational values of teamwork and respect. It also means we must be open to working with others and listening for opportunities.

Responsibilities

Program Development

  • Lead and manage the KNOX Apprentice program, including meeting all grant requirements and program deliverables.
  • Schedule and coordinate apprentice orientation training and ongoing professional development for program participants.
  • Hold participants accountable to program expectations, provide 1:1 support and regular group check-ins to ensure individual/cohort success.
  • Support field work when apprentices are working under the Horticulture Team.
  • Oversee staffing and program support for grounds crew at two public golf courses in Hartford.

Program Tracking and Evaluation

  • Manage the Workforce Development program budget and expenses with support from the Director of Programs.
  • Track monthly program deliverables for Workforce Development program.
  • Input and manage participant data in DonorPerfect.
  • Oversee development and implementation of a program evaluation process.

Partnerships & Outreach

  • Engage in ongoing year-round recruitment for Workforce Development Programs.
  • Lead recruiting efforts such as promotion, apprentice interviews, collaborative partnerships, and attendance at job fairs.
  • Represent KNOX at meetings and collaboratives focused on workforce development, community groups, and city commissions.
  • Sustain existing partnerships and help build new partnerships to benefit the Workforce Development Program.

Organizational Support

  • Engage apprentice participants to support other KNOX programs when appropriate.
  • Represent KNOX at tabling opportunities to engage community members in the right opportunities at the organization.
  • Provide support to organizational events such as CT Flower and Garden Show and the KNOX Harvest Market.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to KNOX’s mission and to fostering a culture of teamwork and respect.
  • At least 2 years’ experience supervising program participants.
  • Proven ability to meet program deliverables successfully.
  • 1-2 years of experience training program participants.
  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment.
  • Relationship-based communication skills.
  • Effective computer and software skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to present information effectively, both verbally and in writing.
