Opening: Mechanical Engineer Location: Rockville, MD Permanent Opening Our client is a rapidly growing company specializing in the field of bio-measurements. As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll play a crucial role in designing, testing, and documenting biotech instrumentation, and scientific devices. Your work will contribute to the development of new instruments and the support of existing ones, particularly in the biodefense, clinical, and life science markets. You'll focus on precision mechanisms and complex assemblies, collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the product development process. Responsibilities: Design and Development: Create mechanical designs for precision mechanisms, including machined, molded, and sheet-metal components. Utilize Solidworks (and potentially other 3D CAD tools) for design work. Conduct simulations and analyses using Solidworks FEA, Comsol, and/or Matlab. Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot issues and stay updated on manufactured components. Prototyping and Testing: Lead the planning, documentation, prototyping, and testing of designs. Be hands-on during prototyping phases. Develop and manage all project phases. Manufacturing Support: Design and build manufacturing test fixtures to support production. Participate in Verification and Validation (V&V) testing campaigns. Ensure design performance meets formal and informal test requirements. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field. 8-10 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in Solidworks and experience with GD&T Best Practices and Tolerance Stack Up Analysis. Familiarity with manufacturing methods (e.g., Molding, Casting, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal, Machined Components). Knowledge of electromechanical systems (robotics, mechatronics, precision motion). Desired experience with fluidics-driven instrument systems. Familiarity with Verification and Validation practices and integration of SW/HW mixed systems. Additional software skills in Matlab, Python, COMSOL, or IDEAS are advantageous.
