Reporting to the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: Humanities is responsible for developing, codifying, and supporting the implementation of a rigorous, vertically aligned PreK-12th Grade Humanities curriculum. The Network Director of Humanities collaborates closely with school-based leaders to design and facilitate high-quality professional development and coaching, ensure strong implementation of the Humanities curriculum, and make strategic adjustments to curriculum and teaching in response to student data. The ideal candidate has extensive knowledge of innovative best practices for Humanities teaching and learning in grades PreK-12, experience fostering adult learning through high quality professional development and coaching, and strong data utilization and strategic thinking skills.

Responsibilities

    • Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment
    • Collaborates with the Managing Director of Schools and other key stakeholders to create a strategic vision for the network curriculum model;
    • Designs and manages the development of a rigorous, vertically-aligned, and interdisciplinary grades PreK-12th grade ELA and Social Studies curriculum that fosters the achievement of all students, takes a constructivist, interdisciplinary approach, is culturally and historically responsive, and develops students' critical consciousness;
    • Manages the selection, adaptation, and/or creation of unit plans, assessments, lesson plans, and instructional materials for DREAM's PreK-12th ELA and Social Studies curriculum aligned to the science of reading and pedagogical best practices;
    • Manages the creation and revision of network interim and unit-level assessments;
    • Collaborates with the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction and other key stakeholders to design a multi-year process for strategic redesign, revision, and codification of the PreK-12th ELA and Social Studies curriculum and assessments;
    • Manages the analysis of student data to assess the effectiveness of curricular design and implementation, makes necessary short- and long-term revisions and improvements, and creates network, school, and classroom-level action plans and resources to improve student achievement;
    • Collaborates with and coaches Principals, Academic Deans, Deans of Student Supports, and other key stakeholders to regularly analyze assessment data and use it to drive instruction;
    • Leads the ELA Working Group made up of leaders and teachers across our schools to innovate on our ELA academic program.
    • People Leadership & Development
    • Manages the Humanities team within the Curriculum and Instruction Team (CIT) to ensure alignment of our PK-12 Humanities programs, production and distribution of curriculum and assessment, and the analysis of data;
    • Manages the design and coaches the facilitation of high quality network-level professional development and coaching practices;
    • Collaborates with the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction and Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: STEM to design and lead highly effective training for Principals, Academic Deans, and Deans of Student Supports;
    • Collaborates with the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: STEM, and the Associate Director of Curriculum Operations to design an facilitate CIT Meetings and professional development;
    • Collaborates with the Managing Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: STEM, and the Associate Director of Curriculum Operations to design and develop CIT operations and strategy and network-wide academic strategy;
    • Leads curriculum implementation and content walkthroughs to support school-based teams in determining focus areas and action steps for instructional improvement by observing literacy instruction and analyzing student and teacher data;
    • Regularly observes and provides feedback to Associate Directors of Humanities and to Principals, Academic Deans, and Deans of Student Supports on their coaching of leaders and/or teachers.
Qualifications
    • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Education, Teaching, or School Administration, preferred;
    • Minimum of 8 years of education experience with a record of achievement for all children, required;
    • Minimum of 3 years of school leadership experience, required;
    • Minimum of 2 years of network- or district-level leadership experience, required;
    • Extensive experience in the selection, design, and development of curriculum and assessment,
    • Deep experience and a commitment to innovation, strategic planning, and continuous improvement;
    • A successful record of developing teacher and leader knowledge, skill, and productive mindsets around teaching and learning, including experience with design and execution of adult professional development and coaching;
    • Extensive knowledge of the science of reading, instructional design, curriculum development, assessment design, historically responsive pedagogies, and pedagogical best practices in ELA and Social Studies;
    • A drive to succeed and achieve great results on behalf of all students, especially those furthest from opportunity;
    • Deeply committed to fostering equity and inclusion in our schools;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, cultural competency, and an ability to connect and build relationships with a diverse group of people;

Working Expectations
    • The Network Director of Curriculum and Instruction: Humanities is part of the Curriculum team, which currently works 3 days in the office and up to 2 days remote, per week (subject to change).
Compensation
    • DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience with the potential for an annual performance-based increase. The incoming salary range for this position is $125,000 to $140,000 per year. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. All staff are eligible for annual performance-based increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
