Job Description

Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates the patient centered diabetes education program at the Joslin Diabetes Center. Plans and conducts continuing education programs in diabetes for allied professionals and the general public. Functions as a resource nurse to the patient and other health care professionals both within and outside the Center.

Coordinates the entire education program for the center. Develops appropriate educational materials, schedules, and plans outpatient programs. Is responsible for coordinating application for ADA Recognition and yearly updates. Chairs the Diabetes Patient Education Advisory Committee and is responsible for coordinating the annual review process. Provides diabetes

in-services to hospital staff. Helps promote the Joslin Education Program by serving as a spokes person for the program.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master's degree preferred. State Licensure. AADE certification or eligible.

EXPERIENCE:

Should have a minimum of two (2) years nursing experience, preferably one (1) year in a community health or ambulatory care setting.

A minimum of five (5) years experience in diabetes care and education. Experience in patient education, demonstrating a strong interest in this area and a desire to teach. Clinical experience should include promotion to positions requiring professional growth and responsibility.

SKILLS:

Comfort and skills in teaching and public speaking. Competence in written and oral communication skills. Ability to work effectively with professionals in a variety of disciplines. Interest in staying up to date and well informed on patient education and diabetes care.
