Healthcare Support Coordinator

The Healthcare Support Coordinator is a professional who possesses the skills and expertise necessary to deliver specific patient care services to both oncology and non-oncology patients under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, physician, or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).

This role actively contributes to the healthcare team's efforts by providing various administrative and clinical services in a prompt, accurate, and courteous manner.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver accurate, reliable, courteous, and timely services to all customers, showcasing excellence in both written and verbal communication.
  • Collaborate effectively with appropriate staff to achieve organizational goals and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Provide assigned patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse, adhering to the standards established by City of Hope as outlined in care plans and policies.
  • Demonstrate competence in high-risk and/or problem-prone behaviors appropriate to the role.
  • Prepare examination and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to patient appointments.
  • Replenish supplies, stock, and clean examination rooms on a daily basis.
  • Conduct medical stock inventory and communicate supply shortages to Clinical Leadership.
  • Proactively acquire outside medical records and images prior to patient appointments as needed.
  • Support providers by performing vital signs, EMR entry, chaperoning visits, scheduling follow-up appointments, room turnover, and charge reconciliation.
  • Report any abnormal results to the appropriate licensed clinician according to established criteria.
  • Assist with procedures based on the services offered at the location.
  • Administer injections in accordance with City of Hope guidelines.
  • Perform EKGs as required, following COH guidelines and training.
  • May conduct phlebotomy and specimen collection as per physician orders, using appropriate techniques and equipment.
  • Ensure a safe environment for patients and families.
  • Dispose of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines.
  • Assist with the transfer of sterile and disinfected instruments to and from the sterile processing area.
  • Support telehealth visits, including chart preparation, patient contact prior to appointments, completing virtual rooming processes, assisting patients during virtual visits, and scheduling tests and off-site procedures as necessary.
  • Address EMR assignments (e.g., InBasket messages) within COH turnaround times and maintain key performance indicators in the EMR.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance service delivery continuously.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility through appropriate and timely use of organizational resources.
  • Attend daily huddles, staff meetings, and complete required training.
  • Engage in a collaborative, empowered work environment through teamwork.
  • Maintain current knowledge and skills through participation in organizational and departmental meetings and continuing education activities.

Qualifications:

High School Graduate or equivalent AND 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant in an acute care or clinic setting.


Education:

Graduate of a Nursing Assistant program or a Medical Assistant program.


Required Certification/Licensure:

AHA BLS Certification, Certification as a Nursing Assistant with an active license/certificate, or Medical Assistant with an active license/certificate.
