Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Under general supervision, you will research, develop, and design products. You will modify existing products, select components and materials, complete detailed drawings and accurate Bill of Materials, and provide all pertinent documentation as needed.

Essential Functions of the Job:

- Perform and/or coordinate engineering and design work for specific products and projects.

- Coordinate the development of layouts and design modifications in existing products for production use.

- Use engineering tools to analyze design requirements for strength, noise, functionality, ergonomics, safety, and quality.

- Communicate and coordinate with suppliers to develop specifications for products and/or components.

- Work with production, manufacturing engineering, marketing, service, and engineering personnel during project implementation.

- Prepare and review complete engineering change packages, including bill of material investigations for completeness and accuracy.

- Evaluate product or product modifications to determine performance and user satisfaction, which may include travel to the field and/or trade shows.

- Assist engineers and designers with required engineering expertise to complete design activities.

- Identify and implement solutions to production and warranty problems.

- Instruct others in interpreting detailed drawings.

This position involves heavy Solidworks designing, responsible for producing part drawings for mechanical assemblies of street sweepers. You will be hands-on, checking the dimensions of parts and their conformance to drawing standards, measuring to ensure designs meet specifications, and observing for potential issues during the manufacturing process. Drawings will primarily be for mechanical parts made of sheet metal, including bearings, races, cylinders, part casings, and basic body parts.

Hours are flexible - The plant opens as early as 4:00 AM. A typical day will be from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with some overtime.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in HUNTSVILLE, AL.

Work Environment

The work environment is both in the engineering lab and on the manufacturing floor. This role is not strictly behind a desk; you will go out on the manufacturing floor, take measurements, observe machines, and collaborate with the manufacturing team. While working in the engineering design lab, the group maintains a very collaborative and feedback-driven environment. Hours are flexible - The plant opens as early as 4:00 AM. A typical day will be from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM with some overtime.
