Job Summary: Seeking a seasoned Principal Systems Engineer (Level 5) to support the development and fielding of mission critical embedded spacecraft systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in systems engineering, strong technical leadership skills, and a proven track record of delivering complex systems. The Principal Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading and driving the technical direction of our systems engineering efforts, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Technical Leadership:
- Define and drive the technical vision and roadmap for systems engineering.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to systems engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Make critical design decisions and resolve technical disputes.
2. System Architecture and Design:
- Develop conceptual designs and provide technical content for RFP's/RFI's
- Lead the development and maintenance of complex system architectures, designs, and models.
- Define system-level requirements and translate them into detailed design and development tasks.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure system integration and compatibility.
3. System Analysis and Trade Studies:
- Lead system-level analysis, including functional, performance, and safety analysis.
- Conduct complex trade studies to evaluate different design options and make recommendations.
- Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools to predict system behavior and performance.
4. System Integration and Testing:
- Lead system-level integration and design verification testing.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure system performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Provide technical support and troubleshoot complex system issues.
5. Process Improvement and Standardization:
- Drive continuous improvement of systems engineering processes and standards.
- Develop and implement best practices, tools, and methodologies.
- Contribute to the development of systems engineering policies and procedures.
6. Stakeholder Management and Communication:
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners, and internal teams.
- Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide technical support to Business Development team
7. Team Development and Mentoring:
- Foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation.
- Mentor and develop systems engineers, helping them grow in their careers.
- Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives and training programs.
8. Strategic Planning and Decision Making:
- Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making processes.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks and issues.
- Make data-driven decisions to optimize resource allocation and project prioritization.
Qualifications:
•BS + 15-22 years, MS + 13-20 years, or PhD + 10-17 years with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
•Knowledge and experience with VPX systems and high speed interfaces (PCIe, 10GbE, etc.) is a plus
•Experience with design of systems with DO-254/DO-178 requirements is a plus
•Proven technical leadership skills and experience in driving complex projects.
•Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Excellent communication, teamwork, and stakeholder management skills.
•Expertise in systems engineering tools, methodologies, and best practices.
•Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
•Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations.
•Experience with team development, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
•Strategic thinking and decision-making skills
