Overview The director of legislative affairs will be responsible for researching and putting together the first drafts of a variety of political-, legal-, and policy-oriented products, including backgrounder memos on legislation, litigation, politicians, and organizations as well as letters and memos to state and federal elected officials and their staffs. This position will report to and assist the senior director of legal affairs in legislative drafting, advocacy efforts, and coalition building. Additionally, the director of legislative affairs will help manage the senior director of legal affairs calendar. The director should have a strong understanding of grammar and professional writing and be able to copy edit final products before delivery. Required Qualifications Juris Doctor or at least 2 years of experience as a paralegal or similar position Bachelors degree in political science, government, philosophy, history, communications, or comparative area of study a plus Experience in policy, politics, or government a plus Strong writing and research skills Familiarity with, and comfort and ease advocating for, limited government; religious liberties; pro-life policies; sensible pro-LGBT policies; and Americas role on the world stage Demonstrable competency in both the Google and Microsoft Office suites Satisfaction of thorough background check Ability to work in-office in Washington, D.C. at least three days per week Benefits and Compensation Dental, medical, and vision insurance Health Savings Account with maximum employer contribution Generous PTO program Negotiable salary based on experience
