The Electrical Estimator will be responsible for preparing electrical estimates for photovoltaic (PV) solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high voltage (HV) substation & transmission line projects.

Position Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Accurately interpret preliminary electrical drawings provided by engineering (PV, HV, and BESS layouts and single line diagrams) and the ability to create estimates based on electrical drawings provided, collaboration with internal and external sources, and historical cost data.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors, equipment manufacturers, vendors, and internal teams to support detailed estimates for release to clients.
  • Conduct detailed review of client-provided data to identify labor, material, and time requirements to inform project estimates.
  • Conduct risk assessment and optimization potential on projects and work with engineering, procurement, and project teams to reduce risk and increase optimization within project estimates.
  • Analyze completed projects to identify, review, and understand variances over and under budget to inform future bidding and estimating activities.
  • Prepare conceptual electrical estimates, including ability to estimate DC/AC and Ground Cover Ratio (GCR) for PV projects with specified modules and inverters, BESS projects with specified BESS vendor, and/or HV projects with specified project size and interconnection voltage.
  • Identify general conditions needs specific to the electrical scope
  • Participate in regular pricing reviews of outgoing proposals.
  • Typically work in office-setting, however jobsite and factory visits will be required.
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements:
  • Ability to travel throughout the United States to visit job sites and vendors.
    • Anticipated percentage of time spent traveling: once per quarter.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
  • 5-7 years of estimating experience in the electrical construction industry and/or experience with design-build electrical contracting.
  • Thorough knowledge of equipment and materials used to construct solar PV, BESS, and HV systems preferred.
  • Experience evaluating bids and scopes of work to ensure items are covered in outgoing proposals.
  • Ability to make accurate judgements and calculations.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in project management tools, including Microsoft Excel, Smartsheet, virtual meeting software, SharePoint, Dynamics, MS Teams, OnScreen Take-off, Accubid etc.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to work in a diverse, dynamic and fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills.
  • Understanding of project management tools and concepts.
  • Electrical code knowledge and design/build estimating preferred.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Strong sense of urgency.
