Position Overview

The Category Manager will have direct responsibility for the sourcing, purchasing, negotiating for one of the following categories: Indirect Material (non-production), Performance Materials (fiberglass, Chemicals etc.) or mechanical components and materials (metals, plastics etc.). The major responsibilities will revolve around global sourcing, ensuring supplier reliability, supply quality, cost savings, on-time delivery and supply network optimization.

Areas of Focus

Performance Material and Chemicals - Responsible for the global procurement management for the category of performance material (e.g. fiber glass-based separators) and chemicals like electrolyte.

General Responsibilities

  • Manage the category in systematic and well-structured manner to improve and maximize spend and business performance.
  • Data analysis (spend) to create a "buy better" environment.
  • Act as VAVE expert and implement "spend better" attitude.
  • Work with members of a functional team particularly with R&D and engineering.
  • Recruit, develop, motivate and retain high caliber team members. Coach and lead team to continuously improve operational performance.
  • Build an organizational climate within the procurement group that promotes collaboration and commitment by providing learning and growth opportunities.
  • Lead negotiations with vendors/suppliers in defined category.
  • Responsible for all new supplier selection, qualification, new purchase ramp up and supplier management from NPI through EOL.
  • Define and execute the strategy for this category and its sub or sub-category,
  • Ensure supply reliability, best cost, on-time delivery, high technology/innovation and speed via supply network optimization, multiple sourcing, quotation, supplier performance and relationship management.
Basic Qualifications
  • BA/BS in business or related field required.
  • Strategic thinker able to formulate short- and long-term strategies.
  • 5-7 years of procurement experience
  • Process oriented, and familiar with procurement tools like CBD, VAVE
  • Ability to travel both national and international 75% of time for 1st year.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MBA
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience
  • Experience supporting a global organization.
  • Matching category experience.
  • Battery Manufacturing experience.
  • Bilingual - Chinese, Vietnamese or Japanese.
