New Relic is looking for a Public Relations Principal to join our communications team. Reporting to the Director of Public Relations, this person will work cross-functionally to drive and manage the reputation of New Relic in the U.S. through owned and earned communications with a strong focus on technology and product awareness.

It is an exciting time to be part of the New Relic Public Relations team. The team is rolling out a multifaceted program that leans heavily into data, customer use cases, thought leadership, and product innovation to show why New Relic is the category creator and leader in observability. The campaigns we have planned for the next 12 months require a Principal who is interested in enterprise technology, can drive strong collaboration with various stakeholders within a global company, appreciates creativity and brainstorming, likes storyline development and is an excellent writer, and has deep relationships with technology and developer media.

The ideal candidate is self-driving and bold in their approach to PR and storytelling. In this role, you will oversee the end-to-end execution of product and partner PR and be responsible for the development of external communications content, including press releases, media pitches, op-eds, speaking abstracts, award submissions, messaging, talk tracks, and FAQs. Importantly, you will collaborate with key stakeholders across product, partner, marketing, and others to translate complex technical concepts into compelling stories that resonate with software engineers and developers.

Your passion and execution will inspire the media to positively cover New Relic company news, our platform and product innovation, and our partners' and customers' success in taking a data-driven approach to planning, building, deploying, and running great software.

What you'll do

  • Drive segments of the New Relic communications strategy and builds initiatives with broader marketing stakeholders
  • Oversee end-to-end execution of PR campaigns and programs to drive positive awareness around the New Relic brand and its product offerings with minimal oversight
  • Work cross-functionally to plan and execute PR campaigns across the globe that advance the company's narrative, market leadership, and industry-leading innovation
  • Draft high-volume of well-written and strategic external materials (press releases, media pitches, speaking abstracts, and award submissions)
  • Collaborate with key company stakeholders across engineering and marketing to influence strategy and negotiate decisions about announcements, messaging, and strategy
  • Engage with partners and customers to build dynamic stories around product innovation
  • Work alongside our Analyst Relations team to maintain relationships with key influencers
  • Work alongside our Partner, Product Marketing, and Customer Marketing teams to identify and manage customer references for product-led campaigns
  • Helps drive an increase in product usage and adoption, in close partnership with developer relations, sales, customer success, and product marketing
  • Communicates compelling vision for the New Relic platform and overall portfolio of product capabilities
  • Successfully engage new and existing business, tech, and channel media relationships to elevate product awareness and coverage
  • Manage corporate speaking engagements and awards calendars; engaging global agencies for support where necessary
This role requires
  • A minimum of 10+ years of communications or PR agency experience, preferably with enterprise software companies or related industries; in-house experience strongly preferred
  • Experience managing an agency
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams like product marketing, product, and engineering
  • Demonstrated experience executing well-written and strategic communications (e.g. press releases, media pitches, Op-Eds, speaking abstracts, and award submissions)
  • Strong writer and editor with experience translating complex, sophisticated, and technical concepts into compelling stories that resonate with core developer audience
  • Established relationships with key media and influencers who cover enterprise software
  • Self-motivated, creative, and curious approach to storytelling
