Linde Gas & Equipment Inc. is seeking a Project Engineer to join our team located in Freeport, TX. The Project Engineer's primary function is to act as the project technical liaison between the disciplines and the project manager, coordinating all technical disciplines and ensuring that all technical scope within the project is completed according to contract specification. This will include the successful integration of all or some of the following project phases: basic engineering, design, procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning, and start-up of the assigned project. In this capacity, the Project Engineer will also act as the Deputy Project Manager when appointed as the sole project engineer for a project. Functionally, the project engineer will derive the policies, processes, and skills for completing day to day deliverables from the Manager, Project Engineering. However, within a project specific context, the Project Engineer will report directly to the Project Manager and be responsible to the PM for the technical management of the project.
Responsibilities
- Acts as the deputy to the Project Manager and provide back-up for the Project Manager as required.
- Coordinates internal and external engineering activities and the interdisciplinary interfaces in close coordination with the discipline team leaders.
- Ensures technical requirements defined in the scope of work are properly incorporated in the engineering deliverables.
- Manages and facilitates communication across the engineering functions to ensure that the project objectives are met, and drives issues to successful conclusion
- Coordinates and leads Design Reviews with assistance from discipline team leads.
- Compiles technical documents and information in support of the Job Change Notice process.
- Coordinates technical claims and issues
- Provides liaison services between engineering and construction including review of scope documents. Attends bid conferences or bid walks for the major subcontracts on the assigned projects. Supports bid review and scope compliance analysis of the subcontractor proposals.
- Participates in project validation meeting(s) at proposal handover from Linde Engineering, when appropriate.
- Supports Construction and Fabrication by providing resolutions of RFI's.
- Reviews and provides input on P&IDs.
- Maintains Equipment List and Quantity Tracking Matrix (QTM)
- Coordinates the assembly of all Construction Bid Package documents, in collaboration with construction engineering, for project construction subcontracts. This will include initial preparation to final (conformed) contract package.
- Performs Shop checkouts before shipment
- Assists the Commissioning Manager or Project Manager with field commissioning and start-up
- Learn and abide by the Linde Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct. Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and professionalism in all communications, actions, and decisions.
- BS in engineering, BSME or BSChE preferred.
- Five years engineering experience, at least one year of which shall have been accrued working as an engineer in a process oriented, E/C Company or in an operating company with project engineering duties.
- Possess a broad understanding of the major design engineering disciplines, i.e., Piping, Equipment, Process, Civil/Structural, Instrumentation, and Electrical.
- Basic understanding of continuous flow chemical/physical processes typical of hydrocarbon processing, hydrogen production, and/or air separation.
- Effective leadership skills.
- Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office Software, Lotus Notes, and other Company and discipline specific software applications.
- Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Project Management Professional accreditation preferred.
- Willing and able to travel (Approximately 40%)
- Extended travel may be required during certain phases of the project (i.e. HAZOP Review, Commissioning/Start-up, etc.)
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently climb to heights of 200 feet.
