GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Supervisor, Accounting major areas of responsibility will include: financial accounting, reporting, including month-end close procedures, general ledger account analyses, preparation/posting of journal entries, technical accounting research, analyses, reporting, internal reporting requests related to Division, Regional branches, Corporate, fulfilling requests related to internal/external audit procedures and all other ad hoc analyses or special project services.

This role will also liaison with the ALABS shared services including; accounts payable, cash applications, central billing, vendor chargebacks, general ledger accounting, and fixed asset functions as defined in the Airgas + ALABS RACI matrix.

The position will also supervise a moderate size staff of accounting professionals providing leadership, mentoring, involvement in the hiring of staff, and overall maintenance of staff workload. In order to monitor staff workload this leadership position must anticipate or forecast department projects that include seasonal or unusually high volumes of work in order to meet deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Ensure the accuracy & integrity of the Division/Region financial statements and other information reported to internal and external users. Direct responsibility will include:
    • General Accounting / Accruals, as noted below
    • Inventory / Stock (Mass Balance)
    • Product Costing
  • Supervise accurate financial and statistical close processes, in conjunction with ALABS, including general ledger account reconciliations and other analyses within established timelines. Direct responsibility will include:
    • Significant sales accruals, that are not based on a standard report/calculation.
    • Significant COS & OPEX accruals, that are not based on a standard report/calculation.
    • Localized accounting topics including, but not limited to, real estate taxes and personal property taxes.
    • Ad-hoc entries arising from the month end close review process
    • Provide input and support to Airgas Financial Reporting on unusual items as well as Line 5 (share plans, asset disposals, settlements) and Line 9 (restructuring, etc.) topics.
  • Proactively, and/or as requested, develop and direct the preparation and communication of ad hoc accounting reports and analysis.
  • This position must be able to build effective relationships with all levels of associates within the organization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
  • CPA and/or MBA in Finance/Accounting a plus
Required Length & Type of Experience:
  • Minimum of four years financial reporting / financial accounting experience, public accounting experience and exposure to medium-to-large companies a plus.
  • Minimum three years supervisor level accounting and financial reporting experience in positions of increasing responsibility a plus.
  • Solid leadership qualities including team management and people development skills.
  • Advanced experience with SAP software
  • Skilled project management, staff mentoring and employee development skills required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Proven track record of success in prior senior or supervisor roles.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • A solid understanding of general accounting matters and IFRS/GAAP.
  • Proven organizational, team-building and people skills. The ability to work and navigate within a complex matrixed organization.
  • Ability to assume increasing responsibilities through multi-tasking in a rapidly-changing environment.
  • Ability to understand the impact of new technologies on processes and costs.
  • Strong "client service" mindset and work well with internal customers as well as external parties.
  • Intermediate computer skills (Google Suite, MS Word, Excel, Access), experience with SAP and/or ERP systems a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting divisional, local and corporate management and demands.
  • Vision, creativity combined with a mindset for quality.
