Sr. Product Stewardship Manager

Job Description

Position Overview

The Product Stewardship Manger will be responsible for management of internal and external Environmental, Safety, Security and Health (ESSH) and other regulatory initiatives to support all Ascend's businesses. This position's primary function is to ensure the responsible development, manufacture, sale, and use of Ascend commercial products and the protection of R&D products while new product development is occurring. This position will be a member of the ESSH leadership team and report to the Senior Vice President of ESSH & Sustainability.

Targeted Outcomes
  • ESSH and regulatory excellence in the development, production, marketing, and the overall life cycle of Ascend's existing and growing portfolio of products.
  • Partner with the technology and the business team to develop an effective strategy for launching regulated products which does not impact or expose existing Ascend products.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and/or apply appropriate Ascend standards for ESSH initiatives related to Ascend's products.
  • Review new products or new applications for existing products to ensure global ESSH regulatory compliance.
  • Support the globalization of our branded compounded products.
  • Manage the preparation, revision, and implementation of worldwide hazard communication documents (SDS, labels).
  • Manage the classification of products for transport hazard (DOT, IMDG, IATA, ADR).
  • Obtain regulatory approvals for products where required, including TSCA, DSL, REACH, etc.
  • Support and Manage customer inquiries regarding our raw materials, products, and manufacturing facilities as they relate to regulatory or ESSH concerns and questions.
  • Respond to and participate in audits of business partners (suppliers, tollers and customers).
  • Determine and assess the impacts of regulatory requirements and partner with the business team to actively manage regulatory issues to resolution.
  • Work in consortia with other producers on ESSH issues of common interest.
  • Manage, coach, and develop a global team of 5 product stewards, several of whom are remote.

Required Experience
  • BS or higher in Chemistry or related sciences
  • 10+ years' of Product Stewardship experience in the chemical industry with a focus on global inventory regulations
  • Experience with providing Product Stewardship support for new product development and growing businesses
  • Thorough knowledge of new TSCA, REACH, GHS, and Transport regulations
Required Skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Self-motivated individual with the demonstrated ability to interpret and apply laws, regulations, and standards.
  • Solid working knowledge of chemical product stewardship principles including Responsible Care.
  • Experience in providing sound, strategic business advice, solving complex problems, and making tough decisions.
  • Ability to work across multiple global functional groups internally and externally i.e. commercial, operations, technology, ESSH, customers, regulatory agencies, and consulting groups.
