What You Will Do

The Category Insights Manager will play an integral role in supporting sales growth and developing go-to-market strategies across channels and retailers. This person will synthesize multiple data streams to provide powerful performance, category, competitive, consumer, shopper behavior, and macroeconomic insights. Data tools include syndicated scan data (SPINS, Circana, Nielsen, 84.51), shopper panel (84.51, Numerator), unique primary and secondary research via our customer service team and our relationship with PearlRock Partners and 84.51/Kroger as well as industry publications. While this person reports into the VP of Marketing, the Category Insights Manager will also deliver strategic recommendations internally across Sales, Marketing, and Leadership as well as externally with category + buying teams.
Responsibilities:

  • 70% Category Management and Shopper Insights: Sell-In story development, performance management, category, brand, and item analysis, white space Identification for expansion (doors & SKUs) across channels, budget, and relationship management with external data providers
  • 20% Consumer Insights: Innovation support (size of prize and go-to-market planning, trend monitoring, concept testing), core consumer analysis, aggregation of consumer learnings, brand health tracking
  • 10% Strategy + Biz Updates: Long-term planning (AOP and IBP process), short-term planning (channel and retailer goal setting and tracking), and quarterly board meetings
Category Management & Shopper Insights:
  • Partner with the Sales and Marketing teams to further substantiate MUSH's sell-in and business development stories with data.
  • Create and lead shopper and category-centric presentations founded in research and analysis that support the retailer's category performance goals.
  • Lead and present category reviews using syndicated analytics and shopper insights with a goal of growing MUSH and the newly established Overnight Oats category.
  • Leverage category and shopper insights to make shelf recommendations that improve the shopper experience of the Overnight Oats category
  • Become an expert in all MUSH categories with a full understanding of key drivers, trends, and what the competition is doing.
  • Own budget and relationship management with External Data Providers.
Consumer Insights + Strategy Development:
  • Work with the Marketing team to identify main consumer profiles and occasions within channels and retailers to inform growth strategies and marketing positioning.
  • Partner with Marketing and R&D as needed to support innovation planning and white space analysis for future innovation initiatives.
  • Develop executive summaries monthly of how the brand is performing in market, highlighting key drivers and diagnosing issues.
  • Develop best-in-class planogram recommendations leveraging scan data, shelf capacity, panel metrics, and shopper behavior to help inform retailer strategy.
  • Leverage performance data to support AOP and long-term planning inputs across channels, doors, assortment, and velocity.
  • Partner with Sales to identify ACV and Assortment targets across pack types by Channel, Vertical, and Retailer, leveraging volume, share, pricing, promotion, shelf, and distribution analytics.
  • Partner with SVP of Sales to build brand performance reporting to support Quarterly Board Meetings.

Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of experience in Category Management, Analytics, and/or Shopper Insights
  • Storytelling skills using multiple sources such as primary/secondary research, loyalty card, shopper panel, and syndicated point of sale data (Nielsen/SPINS/Numerator/Etc)
  • Advanced MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) skills, including pivot tables, slicers, and formulas to automate and contribute to reporting
  • Retailer facing experience
  • Space planning experience a plus
