Join the NVFS Family: We are looking to hire Employment and Engagement Specialist to join the NVFS Work, Life, and Innovation team As the Employment and Engagement Specialist, you will play a critical role on the Training Futures team, driving outcomes by establishing and nurturing partnerships that support several facets of the robust job training program, including internship opportunities, guest speakers, and curriculum development among others You will also create strategies to identify and pursue new partnerships as well as engage and grow existing relationships. Partnerships include social service and non-profit referral agencies, industry groups, employers, and employee interest groups. As the Employment and Engagement Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring that TF participants obtain training-related jobs within six months of program completion and will work closely with the training team to assess graduates' strengths to effectively coach and support them in their job search.

This position has a starting salary of low to mid 50s.

In this role, you will:

Alumni Engagement:

  • Build and maintain Training Futures alumni community by developing methods of regular contact with TF graduates and their employers including written, electronic, and face-to-face contact.
  • Provide employment support services to support past trainees with their job search efforts.
  • Plan and execute job fairs, networking events, and other special events for former trainees in coordination with the training team.
  • Track and maintain short and long-term outcome data, including job retention and salary increases.
Employer Placements and Internships:
  • In collaboration with Program Manager and Director, develop and maintain relationships with key area employers (HR, recruiters, staffing agency, managers, etc.), identify job leads, and identify partnership opportunities in the business community.
  • Identify employers hiring middle-skill, office support professionals; build long-term, mutually beneficial hiring relationships to ensure Training Futures is a talent pool of choice in Northern Virginia.
  • Develop and implement plans to achieve program employment goals, including targets for job placement and increased wages for clients who have completed the training program.
  • Organize on-site interviews and other events to promote hiring relationships.
  • Manage all aspects of the Training Futures internship program for current trainees.
    • Collaborate with Program Manager to identify ideal internship opportunities.
    • Oversee employer experience for the internship program: Set appropriate expectations with employers, understand and communicate company culture to staff to make strong intern matches, check-in with employer during the internship, and get feedback post internship.
Program Support:
  • Maintain sufficient level of knowledge of curriculum content, program software, and other information on job development programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate workshops and speaker events with industry and employee interest groups.
  • Build upon the existing "Getting and Keeping a Job" curriculum and facilitate training.
  • Participate in program activities including graduation and professional development workshops/activities as needed.
  • Work with the Trainers and hiring managers to get feedback and input on relevant, technical aspects of curriculum to ensure up-to-date and in-demand skills training.
  • Participate in regular supervision with supervisor; provide updates and discuss ever changing program partnership needs to prioritize tasks.
  • Coordinate with NVFS Development & Communications team when working with NVFS corporate partners and to create appropriate marketing materials.
  • Ensure that service delivery is performed according to and within the NVFS mission, policy, and procedural direction.
  • Maintain records in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Your Background:We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences.
  • At least two (2) years' experience in related field such as career and alumni services, marketing, communications, business development, sales, partnerships, or workforce development
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university a plus but not required
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including comfort using the phone, public speaking and strong formal presentation skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and proven ability to build trust, rapport and maintain relationships; strong customer service orientation and 'can-do,' solutions-focused attitude
  • Resourceful; ability to identify connections and pursue introductions; comfort cold calling; strategic marketing and outreach
  • Collaborative and responsive team player committed to achieving team success metrics
  • Strategic thinker and ability to analyze and solve problems quickly
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Oral and written fluency in English; additional language skills always welcome.
  • Proficiency in usage of basic technological tools including laptops/computers, email, phones, and internet;. working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of background checks upon hire
  • May be called upon to work outside of normal working hours to attend weekend and evening networking events and resource fairs.
  • Must have reliable transportation to visit designated community locations including employer sites, job fairs, networking events and other business development initiatives.
