the Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) which is a multi-technology office responsible for overseeing more than $27B of investment in large scale demonstrations in emerging technologies such as clean hydrogen, carbon capture, advanced nuclear reactors, grid-scale energy storage, industrial emissions reductions as well as demonstrations in rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged regions. This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement. Job Responsibilities: Conduct independent engineering / due diligence technical advisory reviews of various contracts supporting clean energy technologies and projects. Able to evaluate the expected or actual various contracts for a clean energy project. Identify key gaps / needs as it relates to the functionality and performance of various contracts for a clean energy project. Identify project risks and risks mitigants of various contracts for a clean energy project. Articulate recommendations for improvement (when necessary). Work in teams and independently to provide engineering expertise on various contracts for clean energy projects. Draft independent engineering / due diligence reports on evaluated contracts. Able to draft a data table and risk table (as part of an independent engineering / due diligence report or otherwise). Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication – communicating succinctly and clearly. Liaise with a variety of stakeholders when providing engineering expertise (e.g., clients, technology providers, engineering disciplines). Qualifications: This position is remote, with the expectation that candidates can work during Eastern Time Zone office hours. Residency in the United States is a mandatory requirement. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or closely related field is required. Background in and understanding of clean energy project technologies, development, design, construction, and operations. Comprehensive background in and ability to review various contracts for clean energy, renewable energy or power generation projects, such as engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts, turnkey contracts, power purchase agreements, tolling agreements, finance agreements, equipment and raw material supply agreements, O&M agreements, service agreements, and tolling agreements. Experience providing independent engineering, technical advisory, or due diligence. Minimum of 10 years’ experience practicing in this field. A Master’s degree in engineering, science, or closely related field or a Juris Doctor (JD) in law is a plus. A licensed professional engineer (P.E.) is a plus. Ability to manage projects is preferred. Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.
