The core function of this position is conducting Partner Service interviews and following up on infected individuals, and their partners and/or suspects. The purpose is to prevent the spread of disease by facilitating timely testing and treatment of infected individuals and their partners. This position will also ensure that all (public and private) hospitals, clinics, physicians, and laboratories in the region report findings of sexually transmitted disease, including HIV, consistent with Louisiana Office of Public Health Sanitary Codes and STD/HIV Program Guidelines. The purpose is to refer and prevent losing to follow-up persons requiring treatment and case management, as well as to improve effectiveness and response time of the Disease Intervention Specialist staff, thereby further preventing the spread of disease including eliminating infectious syphilis and congenital conditions. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A baccalaureate degree plus two years of professional level experience in disease investigation and prevention activities. SUBSTITUTIONS: Experience in investigatory work, social services, nursing, or in medical laboratory technician or medical laboratory assistant work will substitute for the required college training on the basis of 30 semester hours for one year of experience. Graduate training in epidemiology, public health, any of the biological sciences, or nursing will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of 30 semester hours for one year of experience. NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
