Purpose

The Wildflower Center seeks an Assistant Director of Development to advance its fundraising initiatives. The Assistant Director works with the Center's Director of Development to develop and implement plans for soliciting major gifts from prospective donors in the major metropolitan areas of Texas and key out-of-state areas with Center and University donors and prospects. The Assistant Director will supervise the Development Specialist and the Development Assistant.

Job Responsibilities
  • Goal Setting: Work closely with the Director of Development to develop and execute targeted fundraising initiatives in alignment with Wildflower Center strategic priorities and to set fundraising goals and objectives with a focus on capital campaigns, major gifts to programs, planned gifts and endowment gifts.

  • Donor Management I: Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors to increase significant gifts and broaden the Center's donor base.

  • Donor Management II: Identify prospects through consultation with Center advisors, extensive analysis of constituent databases, and personal visits to prospects. Establish and meet goals for donor visits and document all contacts with donors and prospects. Develop timely reports, letters, proposals, or gift agreements following a contact.

  • Documentation: Develop timely reports, letters, proposals, or gift agreements following a contact. Make weekly check deposits to the University Development Office on a rotating basis.

  • Team Engagement: Engage the Executive Director, Development Director, and Advisory Council members where appropriate in these activities, including making stewardship and fundraising calls and presenting proposals.

  • Supervisory: Manage the Development Specialist and Development Assistant as direct reports.

  • Database Report Entry: Maintain meticulous development records, maintaining appropriate electronic documentation using the University's CRM, called VIP, in a timely manner, including proposal tracking, contact reports, and forecasting.

  • Events Support: Assist with Center-wide and donor-centric events including, but not limited to, Fortlandia, Luminations, Lady Bird Day, and Plant Sales.

  • Staff Collaboration: Work collaboratively, proactively and in a professional, guest-service-oriented manner with all Wildflower Center and University of Texas at Austin staff to further development goals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and three years of development and donor engagement experience.

  • Proven project management skills and ability to think strategically, creatively and to work well under pressure.

  • Experience using reporting tools and proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of donor relations and stewardship to a successful fundraising program.

  • Ability to complete projects on time and on budget, and report on status and progress.

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to donors and the University.

  • Experience with major gifts, capital campaigns, planned gifts and endowments.

  • Must have a valid TX driver's license and reliable transportation for local and in-state travel.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree

  • Five (5) years of major gifts fundraising experience

  • Experience raising gifts with corporations

  • Experience in and passion for working for a nonprofit organization with a conservation, nature education, or environmental mission

  • Successful track record in securing six- and seven-figure gifts

  • Experience with Blackbaud's Altru and UT's VIP

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$75,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • May work around standard office conditions.

  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.

  • Prolonged screen time.

  • Use of manual dexterity.

  • Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather for mission-related events.

Work Shift
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm

  • Evening and weekend work may be required for events and weekend lead shifts.

  • Some travel in and outside of Texas may be required.
