Program Model
The Academy Group (AG) is a unique social enterprise that leverages earned revenue from financial investments to create opportunities for young people from resilient communities. The Academy Group creates pathways for black and brown students to build wealth and become change agents through careers in portfolio companies.
The Career Specialist Summary:
The career specialist provides expert career guidance and support to Academy members, helping them develop career plans, build a social network, support them with career placement, and inform them about the labor market and trends.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure an inclusive career services model for college members and recent graduates.
Build trust with assigned college members and graduates.
Engage in experiential learning opportunities for career exploration.
Prepare members for job search with career readiness benchmarks.
Connect students with potential employers and track connections.
Document career aspirations and skill sets of members.
Support members in resume development and career choices.
Lead workshops on career topics and collaborate with team members.
Collaborate to solidify full-time opportunities and organize job shadowing.
Help members make career choices based on passions and proficiencies.
Collaborate with career centers at colleges and universities.
Up to 15% travel per fiscal year.
Education and experience requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum of 3 years of career counseling or coaching experience.
Experience serving African American and Latino students.
Capabilities:
Understanding of current trends in career advising.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in diverse groups.
Passion, integrity, and mission-focus.
Knowledge of community challenges and opportunities.
Ability to work under dynamic conditions.
Location: Chicago
Compensation: $80,000 salary, medical, vision, dental, 401(k) with match, Wellness Days, vacation time.
