Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is responsible for ensuring our products are Safe, Reliable, Maintainable and delivered on time. Life Cycle Engineering consists of multiple disciplines that support engineering, our program offices and our customers. Our Life Cycle Engineering disciplines participate in the total life cycle of our products from conception to deactivation. Our focus area is product support, including the following disciplines: Reliability System Safety and Supportability.


What You Will Do:

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join us on the Land & Air Defense Systems (LADS) System Safety team in Tewksbury, MA.

As a Principal System Safety Engineer , your responsibilities will include:

  • Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing for fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance.
  • Work with system test and tactical operation and maintenance procedures to ensure the proper administrative system safety controls are in place.
  • Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls.
  • Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds

Additional responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing System Safety Program or Design analyses
  • Working with a large system safety program or multiple mid-sized safety programs, including:
    • Monitoring program technical execution,
    • Interfacing with stakeholders (e.g. customers, program offices, subcontractors, vendors)
    • Preparing Safety Assessment Reports and Safety Program Briefs for Customer Approval
  • Briefing safety of the program at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
  • Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
  • Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
  • Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design

This position is posted as ONSITE and can be based at either Raytheons Marlborough, MA or Tewksbury, MA locations.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically Requires: Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) and minimum 8 years of relevant Systems Engineering or Safety Engineering experience . An advanced degree may account for additional years of experience as required for this position.
  • Experience with: System Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent Safety Engineering.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience in command and control systems and/or weapon combat systems
  • Experience with DoD System Safety Programs
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal and project management skills, with the ability to manage a safety program and provide direction to supporting safety personnel
  • Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development
  • Masters Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidates work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
