Job Description:
Barry-Wehmiller (BW) is one of the world's leading Paper, Converting and Packaging Equipment companies. BW is investing in additive manufacturing as a strategic part of its manufacturing and innovation future and is seeking a dynamic Additive Manufacturing (AM) Lead Engineer to lead this new operation in Clearwater, Florida. The AM Engineer will be responsible for the Center of Excellence and will be a key resource to help drive additive manufacturing design solutions and capabilities across the BW Enterprise. This role will be responsible for establishing procedures for the site and supporting the part fabrication process (from design to slicing to part production via 3D printing). The role will be a technical and training resource for Additive Manufacturing and will be a key member of the global Additive team.
The role will report to the Director of Additive Manufacturing, currently based in Maryland, USA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):
- Lead the Clearwater Additive Manufacturing Center, establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring on-time and quality delivery, providing hands-on support of operations from prototyping to final part production, including part design, slicing, printer parameter development, 3D printing, and post-processing.
- Provide expertise and support for additive manufacturing and the design (DFAM) and fabrication of 3D printed parts. Proactively share expertise across the enterprise.
- Support product development teams with all aspects of application development and documentation related to additive manufactured parts.
- Apply high-level DFAM and CAD skills to internal concepts and applications to demonstrate DFAM principles and ensure successful implementation.
- Manage research and development (R&D) projects to evaluate, characterize, and validate new materials, additive technologies, post-processing solutions, design and analysis tools related to producing parts with additive manufacturing.
- Develop and produce design, application, and other technical guides and reference documents.
- Provide inputs to strategic planning and the capabilities roadmap for the Additive Manufacturing Team at BW.
- Demonstrate commitment to team values and The BW Way by leading, acting and behaving in a manner consistent with these values.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or similar. Equivalent professional technical experience in a relevant industry will also qualify a candidate.
- Minimum 2 years experience in an industrial manufacturing or product development organization utilizing additive manufacturing technologies (preferred) or in the additive manufacturing industry as an application engineer or similar technical role.
- Strong understanding of conventional manufacturing methods such as machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting and molding and the associated advantages and limitations relative to AM. Technical knowledge of additive manufacturing processes, applications, and design is also desirable.
- Demonstrated high level 3D CAD skills and experience in Solidworks, NX, AutoCAD CATIA, or similar solid modeling programs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to independently organize and prioritize multiple tasks to ensure timely completion.
- Must be creative, self-motivated, and able to work effectively on projects with minimal direct supervision.
- Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills and the ability to resolve technical issues while maintaining a good working relationship with product development teams, internal customers, and other team members.
- Experience leading complex technical or product development projects or providing additive manufacturing services.
- Demonstrated experience identifying high value AM applications and converting conventionally manufactured components and tooling from traditional designs to additive.
- Broad understanding of available AM materials and processes, associated capabilities, common limitations, and proven applications.
- This will be the first hire to lead and run the Additive Manufacturing Center. As the site scales, it is our expectation to hire an Additive technician to support the operation and maintenance of the additive equipment.
- Location: Clearwater, Florida
