The Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is responsible for fairly and efficiently collecting state tax revenues to fund public services, to regulate charitable gaming and the sale of alcoholic beverage and tobacco, and to support state agencies in the collection of overdue debts. Collectively, each program, unit, division and group work together to provide the core services to taxpayers of the State of Louisiana and stakeholders of the agency. LDR is comprised of the following groups: Tax Collection, Charitable Gaming, Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), Debt Recovery, and Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Commission. The Field Audit Income Tax Division is responsible for auditing for compliance with all taxes and fees associated with Louisiana Corporate Income and Franchise Taxes, Louisiana Individual Income Taxes, partnership income taxes, fiduciary income taxes, and all other income taxes resulting in the transfer of income through "flow through entities". ABOUT THIS POSITION: The incumbent in the Revenue Tax Auditor position independently and with minimal supervision performs in-state and out-of-state field audits of the most complex businesses and corporations to ensure compliance with Louisiana tax laws, regulations and policies, and the collection of taxes due. The incumbent in this position is responsible for conducting audits within the state of Louisiana as well as other locations throughout the United States. The Revenue Tax Auditor positions are domiciled at Revenue's offices or home offices and are strategically located within and without the state based on the assessed need for audit resources in a specific geographical region of the state and/or country. This position is directly responsible for coordinating tax audits for various tax types including but not limited to Corporation Income, Franchise, Personal Income, Sales/Use, Severance, International Fuel Tax Agreement, Tobacco, Motor fuels, Natural Gas Franchise and other taxes administered by the Department of Revenue. The incumbent of this position may be responsible for field audit administration duties for two or more tax types. Duties and responsibilities include the following: Performs audits on various types of businesses and corporations. Independently conducts examinations of financial statements, accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes of a variety of large complex and diverse national and international corporations domiciled within and without Louisiana to determine its correct Louisiana tax liability. Travels to out-of-state metropolitan areas to conduct examinations of the most complex taxpayer's financial statements, accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes to determine the taxpayer's correct tax liability. Prepares various correspondences to taxpayers to schedule examination of taxpayer’s accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes. Defines audit issues by researching specific topics through interviews; document reviews including taxpayer's records, public records, industrial journals, annual reports, regulatory agency reports, and other documents providing explanations of specific processes, techniques, and hybrid accounting systems; review of Department's records including prior audit findings; and other research techniques. Examines and analyzes management operations, internal controls structures and systems, financial statements, and other accounting records for reliability, adequacy, accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with laws and regulations and investigates erroneous or questionable transactions to develop audit scopes, objectives, and procedures. No Civil Service test score is required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
