Job Summary: We are a small children’s acute care hospital focused on treating complex medical conditions, chronic illnesses, developmental disabilities, and abuse and trauma. The person in this position performs routine inpatient and outpatient pharmacy technician duties as generally outlined in the functions below. Essential Pharmacy Technician Functions: Distributive - 80% Prepares IV admixtures, hyperalimentations, chemotherapy drugs, and compounded drugs according to specific department procedures Fills patients' orders under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist Fills and exchanges unit-dose carts and cassettes Fills and charges interdepartmental IV and stock orders Delivers and picks up drugs and orders per established routine (i.e. approximately hourly) and as necessary Has knowledge of and is able to use the pharmaceutical balance Communicates appropriately and effectively with patients, visitors, and all hospital personnel Enters patient medication and treatment orders into the pharmacy computer system, which requires: A working knowledge of the pharmacy computer system The ability to understand, recognize and respond to actual and potential drug interactions, drug allergies, and adverse reactions as identified by the pharmacy computer system Non-Distributive - 20% Maintains, stocks, and orders supplies and drugs from designated vendors, in quantities in keeping with established directives.
