Position Overview:
Join a prestigious academic healthcare institution, The University of Chicago Medicine, as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of medications and supplies under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist, while rotating through various sectors of the pharmacy department. This department is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care across diverse age groups and medical needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the transportation of medications, IVs, and other pharmacy supplies to nursing units and clinics.
- Restock and maintain medication inventory in Omnicell machines, ensuring timely availability of patient-specific medications.
- Assist in the preparation of medications for dispensing, including bulk medication prepackaging and compounding of oral suspensions.
- Facilitate the efficient distribution of medications in the absence of the pharmacist, prioritizing urgent orders as necessary.
- Conduct regular inspections of pharmacy areas and maintain cleanliness and organization.
- Engage in quality assurance activities and maintain accurate workload records.
- Participate in the training and onboarding of new pharmacy staff.
Qualifications:
- Valid Illinois Pharmacy Technician License.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- At least one year of experience in a pharmacy setting or completion of an ASHP accredited pharmacy technician program.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of pharmacy practices, medications, and medical supplies.
- Attention to detail and proficiency in record-keeping.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician in Illinois is highly desirable.
