Job Description:

The Human Resources Generalist will have responsibilities in the following areas: employee relations, performance management, new hire orientation, benefits and leave of absence administration, employment law and training.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide day-to-day direction to managers on employee relations issues to include: policy and procedure interpretation, performance management, employment-related investigations, and adverse employment actions
  • Assist with investigations regarding employee relations matters, safety and performance issues, harassment, and other behavior that may be a violation of Company policy
  • Coordinate and administer the leave of absence process for assigned employee groups
  • Assist with recruiting function for hourly and entry level salaried positions by supporting managers with posting jobs, candidate searches, screening resumes, initial phone screens, writing/updating job descriptions
  • Proactively stay up to date with employment, federal and state law changes as well as ensure compliance with these laws
  • Effectively assist in human resources projects, such as building training content and other ad hoc project requests
  • Facilitate training for assigned business units as needed
  • Participate and collaborate with departmental staff in the development and implementation of Human Resources initiatives
  • Assist with the new hire process, conducting orientation and answering employee questions during the process
  • Participate in the administration of employee off boarding
  • Maintain electronic personnel files in compliance with applicable legal requirements
  • Process employee transactions in HRIS (Workday)
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Thorough knowledge of federal and state employment-related laws and regulations
  • Demonstrated competency of HR compliance and practices
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to create effective relationships throughout the organization
  • Ability to advise management in performance management/hiring/termination decisions in accordance with laws and best practices, ensuring that the decisions are in the best interests of the company and mitigate risk
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to professionally interact with Executives and Senior leaders
  • Ability to influence and provide input and feedback to management tactfully
  • High level of integrity and ability to keep confidential information private and secure
  • Strong sense of urgency, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to navigate and pull reports in an HRIS system
  • Capability of exercising independent judgment and discretion while utilizing company policies and practices to determine appropriate action
  • Proactive, self-starter with the ability to take initiative and seek solutions independently
  • Flexibility to adjust in a growing, changing environment


Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or business related

Experience: Minimum 5 years of previous Human Resources experience; minimum 2 years in an HR Generalist role with employee relations experience; manufacturing experience preferred

Systems: Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suites, Workday experience preferred

Additional Requirements:

Managerial Responsibilities: None

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to other MN locations

Physical Requirements: Office position requiring telephone and computer use
