Job Description:

MEI is seeking a skilled and experienced Fire Protection Engineer to join our design team. The Fire Protection Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of comprehensive fire protection systems for data centers. This role requires a highly experienced engineer with a deep understanding of fire protection engineering principles, code requirements, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in designing fire protection systems and a Professional Engineering (PE) license. This role can be based in Austin, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Atlanta, GA, Reno, NV, Grand Rapids, MI, or Las Vegas, NV.

This position may require travel to all of the above listed locations.

Job Duties:

  • Lead the design and engineering of fire protection systems, including fire detection, suppression, and alarm systems, tailored to the unique needs of data centers.
  • Develop detailed engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for fire protection systems.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant codes, standards, and regulations, including NFPA, ICC, and local building codes.
  • Manage and oversee fire protection engineering projects from concept through completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, architects, and construction teams to integrate fire protection systems seamlessly into overall data center designs.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure proper installation and operation of fire protection systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and other team members.
  • Stay current with advancements in fire protection technology and industry trends.
  • Conduct risk assessments and fire safety evaluations for data center facilities.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, design documentation, and regulatory submissions.
  • Ensure all fire protection systems are documented accurately and meet all legal and safety requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Professional Engineering (PE) license.
  • Minimum of 10 years of design experience in fire protection system design.
  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., NFPA, ICC).
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
  • Proven project management experience, with the ability to lead projects and teams effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in fire protection engineering software and tools.
  • Self-motivated, comfortable with ambiguity and motivated to work as a team and lead others.
  • Top-notch organization, attention to detail combined with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, BlueBeam, BIM and Revit.
