Job Title: Patient Service Representative (PSR)Department: Front DeskImmediate Supervisor Title: PSR ManagerJob Supervisory Responsibilities: NoneGeneral Summary: A nonexempt, clerical position responsible for receiving incoming telephone calls and greeting/assisting visitors in a prompt, courteous, and professional manner. Involved in scheduling patient appointments and verifying patient information according to ID Care policies and procedures and properly directing patient calls to appropriate ID Care staff/department. Essential Job Responsibilities: Promptly and professionally answers telephone calls. Routes call appropriately, offering voice mail, paging or redirection of call needed.Greets visitors and assists them as appropriate. Phones or pages employees to meet visitors, directs visitors to appropriate waiting areas, and appropriately and courteously screens solicitors for relevance to organization's needs. Schedules and reschedules patient appointments per established ID Care protocols. Verifies necessary demographic and insurance information and records data in EMR per established ID Care protocols.Explains financial requirements to patient or responsible parties and collects copays as required per ID Care protocols.Other duties as assigned.Education: High school diploma or equivalent.Experience: At least one year as a PSR or clerical experience in a medical office environment required.One or more years' experience in customer service.Must be able to travel to various locations.Other Requirements: Current CPR certification.Performance Requirements: Knowledge: 1. Knowledge of medical terminology and organizational services.2. Knowledge of EMR system. Skills: Ability to use multi-line telephone system, including transferring calls & paging. Adequate hearing to answer phone and speak with patients.Ability to speak loudly enough to be heard by callers and patients. Abilities: Elicits appropriate information to route calls to the appropriate person.Manages patient calls or disputes by working with them to identify concerns and properly direct calls.Equipment Operated: Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephone, etc.Work Environment: Position is in a well-lighted office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work. Exposure to communicable diseases and biohazards is possible. Mental/Physical Requirements: Involves sitting approximately 90 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
