Enterprise Technology: This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.
Engineering and Program Management: This role is part of Enterprise Program Management (EPM), where we provide technical standards, tools, processes, training, and subject matter expertise for product engineering and manufacturing. EPM allows all Blue Origin business units to benefit from commonly used capabilities, hardware, and software and assists business units in identifying, selecting, and training engineers from both inside and outside the organization.
Engines: This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses, our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
Corporate: This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams and locations.
Space Systems Development: This position is part of the Space Systems Development (SSD) business unit. SSD develops next-generation concepts and systems to advance our future of living and working in space sustainably.
Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance: This role is part of the Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin's design, manufacturing, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health, and safety, product integrity, and continuous improvement processes.
New Shepard: This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.
New Glenn: This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-liftorbital launch vehicle capable ofroutinelycarrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar,and beyond.Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designedfrom the beginningto be human-capable.
Test and Flight Operations: This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.
Operations: This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.
Lunar Transportation: This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin's multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
In-Space Systems: The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on addressing two of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit.
DESCRIPTION: As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will be responsible for supporting and representing the Sensor Design team at our Rocket Manufacturing Facility and Integration floor. This is a hands-on position that will involve you in all aspects of engineering, design, fabrication, installation and test. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answer all design related questions coming from our Rocket Manufacturing and Integration Floor.
- Lead and coordinate the selection of avionics components and hardware, such as DAQ, instrumentation, connectors, backshells, cable and wire, fasteners, bonding materials.
- Creation of Non-Conformances (NC) items in our internal system.
- Help with the creation of Non-Conformances (NC) dispositions.
- Create/update redline drawings for the 2D electrical harness drawings, 3D electrical harness installation drawings, hardware and units installation drawings.
- Release Redline drawings in Windchill.
- Lead and coordinate any improvement initiatives associated to increase rate, productivity, and efficiency at our Rocket Manufacturing and Integration Floor.
- Lead, coordinate and identify any initiatives and updates required in the design engineering to facilitate automation during Avionics Installation.
- Lead and coordinate process updates and improvements based on our Rocket Manufacturing and Integration Floor.
- Provide technical guidance for Avionics Installation.
- Support the assembly and testing of instrumentation, Avionics LRUs and Avionics hardware.
- Report on activity schedule and technical status.
- Identify opportunities for technical improvements.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- B.S. degree or higher in Electrical or an appropriate engineering field.
- 5+ years of experience designing Instrumentation and Avionics/Electrical Harnesses for the Aerospace industry.
- 7+ years of experience supporting manufacturing/Flight Instrumentation or Avionics LRUs for the Aerospace industry.
- Experience of instrumentation fabrication and installation processes.
- Experience of Avionics LRUs fabrication and installation processes.
- Experience of Avionics Hardware fabrication and installation processes.
- Experience with Creo and Windchill and Routed System Designer (RSD).
- Understanding and application of instrumentation checkouts on multiple DAQ setups. Thorough knowledge of Data Acquisition.
- Knowledgeable with existing applicable harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620A, NASA-STD-8739.4
- Strong electrical/mechanical design and integration skills using 3-D CAD software.
- Knowledgeable on 6 sigma principles.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired
- IPC/WHMA-A-620A Certification.
- M.S. in Industrial Engineering.
- Experience with Dewesoft, NI, or other types of Analog Avionics hardware.
- Experience with other high-end CAD routing software such as Unigraphics NX Electrical and Mechanical Routing.
- Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems.
- Knowledgeable on 6 sigma principles.
- 6 Sigma Green/Black belt certification.
