Maintains a safe, clean, hospitable, and dignifying environment for all guests and staff; assisting in the provision of trauma-informed, person-first, and grace-based program space to meet the needs of those who seek TRM's services

Tacoma Rescue Mission Competencies

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Greets all guests, residents, volunteers, donors, and team members, creating a welcoming environment that fosters healthy relationships.
  • Maintains the overall cleanliness of the buildings on the Downtown Campus.
  • Establishes cleaning schedules and logs.
  • Completes walkthroughs of the shelters with the Shelter Supervisors.
  • Continually researches, gathers, and gains knowledge of cleaning practices.
  • Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
  • Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
  • Uses equipment such as commercial vacuums, floor buffers, and carpet cleaners.
  • Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting work requests.
  • Properly cares for and maintains equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory and supply levels.
  • Provides vendors with access to areas for cleaning.
  • Completes cleaning logs and records that show areas of the building that have been cleaned.
  • Performs snow removal activities, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
  • Ensures custodial staff responsibilities are completed within established practices and timelines.
  • Assists with on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support others and ensure an efficient and effective work environment.

Interact in a relational manner with people from diverse backgrounds. Office and residential environment performing custodial duties.

Requirements
  • Experience as a custodian/janitor.
  • Experience with and knowledge of a variety of cleaning techniques and procedures.
  • Proactive and thorough with completing tasks.
  • Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to direct and coordinate the work of the custodial crew.
  • Skilled in clear and effective written, verbal, and electronic communication.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment using effective and thoughtful interactions and communication.
  • Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently moves about inside the office to access all areas for custodial purposes.
  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office.
  • Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) when necessary for exposure control.

Hiring Range

$20.44- $22.57

Full Range

$20.44-$24.92
