NATURE OF WORK: Under general supervision, employee will work under well-established guidelines to sufficiently and independently perform and assume responsibilities to be able to conduct professional accounting duties including the examination, analysis, maintenance, reconciliation and verification of financial records. This position will primarily prepare and accurately process payroll and conduct sales tax and business license processing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Payroll •

Review timesheets within the payroll software system and address any issues with approving managers, prepare the payroll batch for approval, reconcile payroll and create/balance the payroll journal entry. •

Reconcile and pay 401(k), 457, and pension plans and file online. •

Maintain records of bonus pay, and other compensation. •

Work closely with HR to help them maintain employee records such as new hires, terminations, pay rates, leaves, and payroll deductions. •

Provide reporting as needed to directors and managers. •

Maintain all payroll records in an organized fashion and scan into the record retention software.

Sales Tax and Business License Processing •

Assist customers by providing information, answering questions, responding to complaints, solving problems and providing instruction with MuniRevs. •

Daily reconciliation of sales payments received through MuniRevs to bank activity. •

Prepare and distribute monthly sales tax report. •

Review and process business license applications. •

Following up with customers on the status of expired business licenses and past due tax filings. •

Review LodgingRevs system reporting to ensure compliance with Short Term Rental licensing requirements.

Accounting •

Files/scans documents and records as required for record keeping; purges files and records according to established procedures. •

Reconcile vendor statements and assist with biweekly Accounts Payable processing. •

Assist in annual audit. •

Other duties as assigned.

Other •

Acts as a liaison, when necessary between Mountain Village and its residents and guests, subcontractors, vendors, and merchants giving direction and assistance as needed. •

Promotes and observes safe work and office space methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites as necessary. •

Maintains professional competence in accounting principles and techniques; reviews and applies new or revised laws, regulations, and accounting standards. •

Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of the team. Will work closely with the Human Resources team to accurately and efficiently process payroll and other finance and HR related tasks. •

Actively works to progress the Town’s goal of zero waste and carbon neutrality by minimizing unnecessary consumption (of energy, water, paper, plastic, ink, etc.), seeking environmentally preferred products (e.g., reusable, recycled content, non-fossil fuel), and supporting environmental initiatives through participation, promotion, and accurate storytelling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/GED. Bachelor’s or associate degree in accounting or business administration preferred; at least four years of bookkeeping, accounting, or equivalent experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated computer skills in working with spreadsheets, time tracking, email software, and word processing.

Licenses/Certification(s): Possession of a valid Driver’s License is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of: Advanced bookkeeping practices; principles of double entry and accrual accounting; techniques used to reconcile subsidiary accounts to control accounts and maintain books through trial balance; computerized accounting and payroll systems and Excel spreadsheet software; business math.

Skills in:

Journals and ledgers maintenance; arithmetical calculations, including ratio, rate, and percentage; computer spreadsheets and reports; analyze fiscal data and draw logical conclusions; define accounting problems and recommend effective solutions; verbally communicate accounting procedures and policies clearly to others; use personal computer applications including spreadsheet, payroll and accounting software; write memos and reports clearly and concisely; organize work and set priorities to meet deadlines; multitask and prioritize diverse tasks; read, understand and apply policies to accounting functions; communicate general and technical information; maintain working relationships with government officials, superiors, and co-workers; operate business machines; identify and resolve discrepancies in accounting records.

Abilities:

To manage time and meet all deadlines; prioritize tasks; maintain an organized work space; provide clear and concise communication; critical thinking and problem solving.

Environmental Factors: Work is performed in a standard office environment. Frequent to constant use of a personal computer. Work may involve competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines.

Physical Factors: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time and occasionally lift storage boxes of 20lbs or more.
