Description

The Restoration Field Lead will work with the Habitat & Wildlife Program Manager to lead restoration field staff and contract crews during implementation and monitoring of restoration projects. The Restoration Field Lead will support and collaborate with the Habitat & Wildlife Program Manager in organizing team members, equipment, and logistics for field operations.

Essential Duties:

  • Lead team members during field operations to keep field work organized and efficient.
  • Lead field operations related to restoration project actions, under the direction of the Program Manager.
  • Utilize GIS Field Applications to provide project tracking & progress.
  • Lead and coordinate with contract crews and partners when needed (WCC, Stewardship Partners, KC Noxious Weeds, Mt. Si Green Team, etc.).
  • Assist on grant applications to secure funding for new and ongoing restoration projects.
  • Assist on grant reporting on ongoing projects, planning project execution, outlining multiple project timelines.
  • Assist the Program Manager in maintaining project management systems (project tracking spreadsheets, file organization, photo tracking, GIS applications) to aid in communication, tracking, and progress.
  • Communicate project progress both verbally and in writing with outside stakeholders.
  • Represent the Snoqualmie Tribe at volunteer events, presenting at conferences and in the public through stakeholder meetings (KWG, Watershed Forum, Tribal Habitat Conference, etc.).
  • Supervise and mentor Restoration & Monitoring Program Technician(s) and Specialists, providing direction on fieldwork protocols, data collection methods, and ensuring adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
Additional Duties:
  • Collaborate on education and outreach, including organization and implementation of volunteer events.
  • Collaborate on occasional monitoring for other programs, including GIS, Water Quality, and Wildlife.
  • The Tribe values its commitment to community service and the well-being of its members. In recognition of this, each employee may be expected to perform duties from time to time which may not be related to their regular responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of various habitat restoration methods and practices and adaptive management practices (know how to respond to individual site needs/working knowledge of experimental and proven field practices on a hyper-local level).
  • Detailed knowledge of Northwest native plant communities and their importance in the implementation of resilient and successful habitat restoration projects.
  • Advanced ability to identify Northwest native plants and noxious weeds.
  • Detailed knowledge of salmon ecology, life history, and habitat needs. Knowledge of best practices in salmon recovery in the Puget Sound region, especially in a river context.
  • Maintain applicable certifications (WFR, Pesticide License, CERP, etc.)
Education & Experience:

Education Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in in Ecology, Natural Resources, Biology, Environmental Science, or closely related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Required:
  • Experience managing/supervising restoration crews and volunteers in the field
  • Experience collecting and proofing data in the field on paper and through ESRI/GIS mobile apps.
  • At least 4 years of experience leading field teams in restoration and monitoring operations.
  • At least 4 years of experience in habitat restoration, noxious weeds, and Native Plant ID.
  • At least 4 years working on salmon recovery related projects.
  • At least 4 years of experience safely operating 4x4 vehicles, including off-road.
Certifications/Licenses:
  • Valid and unrestricted Washington state driver's license.
  • Pesticide applicators license.
Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation.
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.
Work Environment:

Work is performed both in an office (30%) and in the field (70%). The work environment includes an office environment in a controlled atmosphere building and outdoor field work in all weather conditions. The ability to travel to, walk in, and work in field work areas will be required. Work will require bending, lifting, and carrying up to 50 pounds, operating mechanical equipment, and walking over rough and brushy terrain. Work performed in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts and sometimes adverse weather conditions. Weekend and evening work hours will sometimes be required.

Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be possible in accordance with the Tribe's Telecommuting Policy.

Tribal Preference:

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals.

Additional Information:
  • Hourly, compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $36.62 per hour.
  • This position is a regular full-time position and employment is at will.
