Join the fight to end homelessness and make a difference in people’s lives at LA Family Housing THE POSITION: The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the LA Family Housing assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. WHAT YOU'LL DO: RECONCILIATION OF BALANCE SHEET ACCOUNTS Reconcile all balance sheet accounts except cash and payroll accounts. Perform subledger tie-outs for Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable. Manage intercompany receivables and payables. Track and reconcile fixed assets. Account for prepaid expenses and deposits. Manage notes receivable and other assets. Record and reconcile accrued expenses, leases payable, and other liabilities. STATEMENT OF ACTIVITIES ACCOUNT ANALYSES Conduct detailed analyses of Statement of Activities accounts as defined by management. MONTHLY ANALYSES Analyze donor-restricted net assets. Prepare and maintain the SEFA (Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards) schedule. GENERAL COST ACCOUNTING Perform general cost accounting tasks and other related duties for the organization. Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness. FINANCIAL REPORTING Prepare monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements. Ensure accurate coding of invoices, set up new accounts, reconcile accounts, and close monthly books. ACCOUNT RECONCILIATION Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks. Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts. Manage accounts receivable collections. ACCOUNTS PAYABLE & INVOICING Verify and complete payment of invoices associated with accounts payable. Ensure payments are charged to the appropriate accounts. Manage the purchasing and invoicing system. AUDIT & COMPLIANCE Provide outside auditors with assistance; gather necessary account information and documents for the annual audit. File tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations. SOFTWARE & SYSTEM MANAGEMENT Coordinate with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems. Recommend updates to enhance accounting software performance. OTHER Undertake additional tasks, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor. WHAT YOU'RE SKILLED AT: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting. Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles. Ability to correctly prepare tax reports. Proficient in reconciling various balance sheet accounts and ensuring accuracy. Ability to perform detailed account analyses and identify discrepancies. Skilled in preparing and maintaining financial schedules and reports. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software. OTHER: Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPAA standards. Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification. Ability to pass post offer Tuberculosis (TB) clearances. Travel is a regular duty for this position and is required 5% of the time. Use of a personal vehicle to travel between worksites and other locations is required. Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License and auto insurance in good standing. Ability to work a 9/80 work schedule. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. WHAT YOU'VE ACCOMPLISHED: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field, preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of related accounting experience required. Experience with NetSuite highly desired.
