**Nature and scope**

YMCA Camp Pine Crest is located on 650 acres of pristine wilderness in Muskoka, Ontario. It offers a traditional overnight camp in the summer months, and an Outdoor Centre year-round. The Outdoor Centre provides unique experiences for schools, organizations and individuals through a wide range of activities and programs. The staff and volunteers ensure that we provide a high level of quality programs to all of our participants, campers, and guests.

Reporting to the Food Services Team Leader, the Food Services Coordinator ensures delicious and balanced meals and snacks are prepared and served to groups and campers, and helps provide direction and instruction to seasonal/junior food services staff while in the kitchen. The position also supports menu planning, ordering and managing of food and supplies inventories, and maintenance and cleaning of food preparation equipment.

**Responsibilities**

* Prepares and cooks complete meals for guests and campers, which includes: cleaning, peeling, mincing, chopping, mixing, portioning, measuring ingredients, packaging and labeling, etc.

* Ensures meals, snacks, and beverages are served at appropriate times for guests and campers.

* Assists supervisor with menu planning; responsible for providing food which is attractive, balanced and has appropriate portion sizes based on the Canadian Food Guide.

* With direction from Food Services Team Leader, responsible for food substitutions for participants with dietary restrictions and cultural needs as needed.

* Ensures awareness of participants food allergies and restrictions and provision of substitute food.

* Assists supervisor with ordering from vendors, and maintaining food and kitchen supplies within established schedules.

* Helps with monitoring food and inventory required to meet menu plans, and notifies supervisor if anything is low/missing.

* Entrusted as a senior food services staff member, and takes responsibility for the kitchen operations in the absence of the Team Leader or Director.

* Provides leadership and guidance/demonstration to seasonal/junior kitchen staff on proper culinary skills (chopping, mixing, measuring ingredients, etc.) while preparing food/meals.

* Establishes rapport and maintains good relationships with vendors, team members, and guests.

* Responsible for keeping the kitchen clean and in good order based on a set cleaning schedule. Has the ability to maintain a sterile/clean environment and has knowledge of cleaning and the disinfection of appliances and dishes. Can follow the established maintenance schedule, meeting the guidelines of the Public Health Department; maintains a safe environment for food and equipment.

* Refills, cleans and stocks regularly used items such as plates, cup, bowls, and utensils as needed.

* Performs tasks independently or in a large team setting.

* Attends staff and team meetings, committee meetings and in-service training as required.

* Demonstrates appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; takes a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association.Represents the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.

* Understands the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.

* Understands the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrates the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.

* Other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**

* Secondary School Education

* Completion of a recognized food handlers certificate

* Minimum 2 years experience in a food service operation in a large institutional setting

* General knowledge of proper and hygienic protocols for food preparation, storage and disposal

* Knowledge or previous experience working in an outdoor camp or outdoor education setting is an asset

* Experience working with youth is an asset

* Previous experience in culinary skills instruction/teaching is an asset

* Capacity to work within a team and be part of a large multi-service, not-for-profit Association

* Able to participate actively in a team for organizational effectiveness

* Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers

* Excellent written communication skills

* Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity

* Flexibility regarding assigned working hours
