The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Department of Surgery Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago seeks a full-time faculty member who will serve as Division Head of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine and will hold the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine has a proud history of clinical, educational, and academic excellence. The dedicated faculty members are deeply committed to the Division's clinical practice, research, and education of residents and fellows. As the busiest surgical division at Lurie Children's, the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine faculty sees patients at 13 locations and is responsible for over 48,000 outpatient visits and 2,131 surgical procedures annually. Hosting robust clinical programs in areas such as bone health, brachial plexus injuries, clubfoot, concussion, fracture care, sarcoma, scoliosis, and spina bifida treatment, knee injury prevention, and sports medicine. The faculty is dedicated to training the next generation of leaders in Orthopaedics and sports medicine. The Division offers an Orthopaedic surgical fellowship and provides training to numerous rotating residents, fellows, and students, including sports medicine fellows, pediatric rehabilitation medicine fellows, rheumatology fellows, pediatric fellows, Orthopaedic surgery residents, adolescent medicine residents, and physician assistant students. In addition, research is a cornerstone of the division, with 110 active research studies, including 9 randomized trials, 18 prospective registry studies, and 19 multicenter study groups. The Division Head roles and responsibilities include: Represent and lead 8 surgeons, 4 sports medicine pediatricians, 2 physiatrists, 19 advanced practice providers, 5 athletic trainers, 15 administrative staff, and 9 research staff, including a PhD faculty member who directs the surgical outcomes research program. Provide overall leadership, strategic planning and execution, mentorship, and operational oversight to a talented faculty and staff at one of the Midwest's premier Children's Hospitals. Spearhead the development of strategies and surgical programs aligned with the larger Department of Surgery strategic plan, integrating clinical, research and teaching. Collaborate with appropriate peer leaders and the Surgeon-in-Chief to plan, implement, evaluate, and improve programs within the Division. Oversee quality improvement and related initiatives to ensure the professional aspects of regulatory compliance and will work closely with our academic affiliate at the Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine. The ideal candidate will be a visionary and strategic leader with outstanding technical skills, a passion for clinical excellence and the ability to work effectively with collaborating teams in and outside of the Department of Surgery. Additional qualities include: Exceptional interpersonal skills, maturity and superb emotional intelligence. Strong commitment to education and teaching. Demonstrated scholarly activity in an area of clinical or basic science research. The candidate must have their MD or DO degree, board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, additional fellowship training in Pediatric Orthopaedic surgery and demonstrated scholarly achievements and a commitment to teaching.
