General responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Performing various aspects of Civil design as directed by a Senior Civil Engineer including conceptual studies, design analyses, calculations, site design for buildings or subdivisions, design for infrastructure projects, and design related to a business development activity such as a response to a Request for Proposal (RFP). Preparation of programming documents, schematic documents, design development documents, and construction documents as directed Coordination and communication with design team members to ensure the Civil design details integrate properly with the work of all other project disciplines Preparation of marketing and presentation materials as directed Performing Civil services associated with the bidding process, including preparing addenda and amendments and opening and tabulating bids as directed Performing Civil services associated with the construction phase, including field visits, answering RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and preparing record drawings as directed Complying with quality control policies and procedures Learn and implement department and company standards Develop analysis and design skills Participating in team meetings and coordinating efforts with other team members Working with, responding to, and taking direction from Senior Engineers, Project Managers and Design Managers Working with a team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects Project responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Perform tasks as directed by senior staff Responsible for document organization and clarity Responsible for discipline drawing coordination Completing sections and details produced to a schematic-level of completion by the Engineer Creating schematic-level site layout and grading plans for projects of low to moderate complexity Creating schematic level roadway layout and grading plans Development of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes Participate in developing a model of the site design and utilities in Civil 3D on projects where modeling is a requirement Assist with preparing LEED templates on projects where LEED certification is a requirement Adhere to project budget and schedule Education Graduate of an ABET-accredited 4-, 5-, or 6-year engineering program in one of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering Civil and Environmental Engineering Civil, Environmental and Infrastructure Engineering Civil Engineering Technology Post-graduate degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering-related degree may be given additional consideration Licenses, Certifications, and Accreditations Must have earned the designation of EI or EIT in at least one US state, preferably in the local jurisdiction or in a state that has reciprocity with VirginiaPursuing Professional Engineer licensure (PE) within 36 months of being hired. Understanding of sustainable design principles and design practices and pursuing LEED AP accreditation is desirable Additional certifications such as CDT, CCS, or CCCA are encouraged to reflect personal growth in the profession and an ever increasing knowledge base to enhance the design and documentation process Active membership in NSPE, ASCE or other related professional organizations is desirable Software Skills A Civil Engineer EIT should be able to effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management. Working familiarity with design and production software to a point of being able to utilize the software in the development of project documents and interact with other project team members in their use of the software is highly desirable. Career Experience Up to 4 years of specific, post-graduation, Civil engineering experience that includes experience with designing a site, roadway, subdivision, or utilities; development of manual calculations and analytical models for Civil analysis and design purposes; development of construction documents (drawings and specifications), coordination with other design team members, and experience in responding to construction phase queries and submittals. Previous experience with wireless communications projects will be given additional consideration for Civil Engineer EITs assigned to our Wireless Communications division.
