About the role:

The Associate Director (AD) will establish and foster strategic partnerships across all site teams to grow EH&S programs, including culture change, ISO management systems, compliance programs, corporate initiatives, and others to foster a safe, compliant, and sustainable work environment. Ensure ISO 14001 and 45001 certification is maintained for the site. Also responsible for multiple EHS programs and provide EHS support to several departments or areas of the facility. Acts as the Sr. Management Lead for the Site for all Core and Technical Safety programs, Emergency Response and Process Safety Management Compliance. Develop strategic plans for continuous improvement in EHS. Provide leadership and function as the back-up to the Site EHS Head when needed. Influence and direct employees at all levels of the organization to achieve excellence in EHS. Ensure all systems and assigned programs comply with all laws, regulations, permits, and company requirements.

Job Function and Description

Lead the planning, implementation, and execution of environmental, health and safety programs and strategies with an emphasis on Core and Technical Safety programs according to legal, regulatory, corporate requirements and industry best practice. Ensure the Site maintains certification with ISO 14001 and 45001. Lead efforts to improve assigned EH&S programs, ensuring they are effective and compliant. Accountable for site Emergency Response Team and associated programs, develop skillset and ensure members are adequately trained and resourced. Participate, lead, and plan EH&S walks, audits, and inspections Provide leadership and expertise, participate in incident investigations, develop, and support corrective and preventive actions, incident response. Lead Centers of Excellence, including Process Safety Management, Contractor Safety, Emergency Response and other. Ensure improvement through implementation of the Company EHS management system, including facilitating risk assessments, setting targets and monitoring performance. Lead and direct a team of EHS associates and other professional support team members. Develop a safety culture across the site, ensuring all incidents are reported, investigated and corrective.

What you bring to Takeda:

Education and Experience Requirements

A Master's degree in Occupational Safety and Health is preferred, as is holding Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or other professional designations acquired through testing and experience, and from recognized professional organizations. 8+ years or related experience with 3+ in a management role.

Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

Strong functional knowledge and expertise with OSHA, as well as EPA. Experience with Root-Cause Analysis, Event Investigation, Process Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment. Sharp and effective communication, able to connect and influence at all levels and to present complex topics in a concise manner. Strong interpersonal and leadership skill to engage with stakeholders at all levels, from hourly personnel to Site Senior Leadership Team and above site leaders. Must be able to think critically, prioritize and respond to issues with a sense of urgency in an independent fashion and/or minimal guidance. Ability to lead by influence. Strong change management skills.

In this role, you may: Work in a controlled environment requiring special gowning and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body. This may include additional hearing protection for loud areas. Need to remove all make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish and/or artificial fingernails while in the manufacturing environment. Work in a cold, wet environment. Work multiple shifts, including weekends, or be asked to work supplemental hours, as necessary. Work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and Celite that may require respiratory protection.
