JOB SUMMARY:
Performs clerical duties and coordinates communication of a unit to support patient care activities.
PERFORMS CLERICAL DUTIES NECESSARY TO SUPPORT PATIENT CARE ACTIVITIES.* Initiates, assembles and maintains patient chart/Kardex in accordance with established procedures.* Files reports and test results correctly and in a timely manner. * Accurately and promptly transcribes physician orders.* Processes ordered tests, medications, procedures and appointments appropriately and coordinates appropriate transportation.* Processes admits/transfers/discharges promptly.
ACTS AS COMMUNICATION CENTER OF THE UNIT AND ENSURES INFORMATION IS SHARED WITH APPROPRIATE PARTIES.* Informs team members of reports, orders and other information in a prompt and professional manner.* Provides relevant information to Health Unit Coordinators cross training on the unit in a prompt and professional manner.* Answers the telephone promptly and courteously.* Manages the patient call system in a timely, courteous and professional manner.* Serves as an information resource to patients, staff and public consistently interacting appropriately with all ages.
CONTRIBUTES TO AN ORGANIZED AND SERVICABLE WORK ENVIRONMENT. * Maintains a clean, safe and functional work area.* Maintains par levels of nonbillables, supplies, forms and patient care equipment.* Utilizes supplies and equipment economically.* Transports patient care items as delegated.
PERFORMS OTHER POSITION APPROPRIATE DUTIES AS REQUIRED IN A COMPETENT, PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS MANNER.REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY:* Knowledge of basic computer/keyboard skills.* Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Training Program preferred.* Pyshciatric Unit requires a Non Violent Crisis Intervention Certification within in 6 months of hire.
