Position DetailsPosition Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty TrackPosition Title Lead Housekeeper, 2nd Shift Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Portland, ME Description The Lead Housekeeper provides direct leadership and guidance to a team of Housekeepers in designated buildings across campus. The Lead will ensure that a high level of cleanliness and quality of service is achieved and maintained. This includes overseeing the work activities of Housekeepers on shift, inspecting their work, investigating any complaints related to housekeeping, and assisting staff with daily duties as required.This position also assists with interviewing new applicants, training employees, addressing performance concerns, and monitoring supply inventory. The Lead is responsible for participating in and completing all safety initiatives appropriate to the position. This role serves as a model in providing high levels of service and maintaining a professional and friendly demeanor. Please visit the Human Resources Benefits site for additional information regarding UNE's benefits package.Responsibilities Serve as a team leader for a crew of custodial/housekeeping staff:train new employeesissue daily work assignmentsmonitor work in progress and check completed workassist staff with problems or unusual situationshandle minor disciplinary actions and other personnel problemsreport significant personnel problems to supervisorreview timesheetsDetermines that established standards of quality and quantity are met.Clean floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax and buff.Shampoo carpets.Wash windows, walls, chalkboards, trash cans.Dust furniture, fixtures and woodwork.Collect and empty trash receptacles and pick up litter in and around buildings.Clean, sanitize and stock bathrooms; change and clean shower curtains.Replace light bulbs.Move furniture.Perform routine cleaning of electrical, heating, vents and fixtures.Coordinate and carry out a specialized custodial/maintenance function such as refinishing floors, project cleaning, and so forth.Assist with snow removal.Communicates and coordinates with UNE personnel including Lead Housekeepers, Facilities management, Human Resources, and other departments.Commit to actively fostering a welcoming culture of inclusion and diversity.Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school education is desirable, with two to three years of relevant commercial or institutional custodial experience, including relevant training/experience in the use of commercial cleaning chemicals and equipment.Good basic supervisory skills (decision-making, interpersonal, adaptability, and time management).Strong written and oral communications.Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people in an educational and professional environment.Ability to work cooperatively with employees from other departments and to deal courteously with students, faculty, staff and visitors.Valid driver's license.Strong computer aptitude, including Microsoft Office and ability to learn operational applications.Physical ability to do custodial work and operate cleaning equipment.Knowledge of troubleshooting vacuums or other housekeeping equipment is a plus.
