This role requires a highly organized individual who can synthesize complex, ambiguous requirements into scope/inputs that factory engineering and construction teams can execute to. You will drive collaboration across manufacturing, industrial engineering, infrastructure engineering, and construction teams to ensure factory launch plans are clear and executed to meet aggressive program goals. You will conduct technical deep dives into factory layout designs, infrastructure system options, and ensure factory development is adhering to Tesla's core principles. You will identify and understand program dependencies, risks, and disconnected information and distill data into clear messages/plans. You can communicate and influence a wide range of staff from senior leaders to junior staff to support project goals. What You’ll Do Responsible for leading the full design & engineering of Tesla facilities from concept to production launch. Develop Engineering project plans and secure leadership alignment. Defines & effectively communicates factory design scope & prioritization for factory engineering team. Drives formation of internal and external engineering team and manages 3rd party consultant contracts and budget. Scope & implement innovative engineering and design strategies to support aggressive program objectives. Own execution of high-quality engineering deliverables (i.e. IFC) needed for procurement, costing, permitting, and construction activities. Owns factory development program schedule, funding requests with broader team, and cross-functional design reviews (2D & 3D). Leads factory engineering technical deep dives, process safety studies, & options analysis. Serve as main factory engineering point of contact for construction team during construction phase. Own engineering project status reporting of progress, actions, & risks. What You’ll Bring Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience. Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams within Architectural/Engineering firms or design-build firms. Experience leading engineering for central plant systems (i.e. chiller plants, boiler plants, compressor plants) is a major plus. Full understanding of all engineering disciplines and ability to demonstrate skills to manage engineering resources. Proven record in delivery of IFB, IFP and IFC packages. Experience designing manufacturing facilities, healthcare, laboratory, mission critical, and site infrastructure development project types. Excellent communication skills with ability to understand complex topics/problems and distill the message clearly. Pre-Construction Project Management experience is a plus.
