At Raytheon, the foundation of everything we do is rooted in our values and a higher calling – to help our nation and allies defend freedoms and deter aggression.  We bring the strength of more than 100 years of experience and renowned engineering expertise to meet the needs of today’s mission and stay ahead of tomorrow’s threat.  Our team solves tough, meaningful problems that create a safer, more secure world.

Job Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Wafer Fabrication Etch Processes Section Lead to join our semiconductor foundry engineering leadership team within the Advanced Microelectronics Solutions (AMSD) Department.  The AMS Department develops, designs, and manufactures compound semiconductor devices, microwave/millimeter-wave integrated circuits, and modules for defense applications.  This role requires a broad understanding of microelectronics processing techniques to lead direct reports responsible for maintaining and improving the wafer foundry’s dry etch and wet etch chemical processes.

The engineering section lead in this role would be responsible for directing a group of skilled process engineers to fabricate advanced microelectronic devices in accordance with various technology roadmaps in support of Raytheon business pursuits. These road maps consist of both near term efforts on the cusp of transition-to-production, as well as longer term development efforts that maintain a pipeline of innovation. The ideal candidate will have experience in III-V semiconductor processing and III-V epitaxial materials, preferably in GaAs or GaN, with a solid foundation in semiconductor device physics. Presence on the foundry floor is essential for understanding technical and logistical issues. The role requires a large degree of multitasking with attention to detail while managing priorities depending on the nature of the problems and the commitments to customers and programs.

Perhaps most importantly, the candidate must have a willingness to relate to and support the needs of their employees.  The section leader will have a sphere of up to 20 employees who will depend on the section lead to help guide their careers and to maximize their potential and effectiveness.

This role will be 100% on-site and based in AndoverMA.

Responsibilities to Anticipate:

  • Review process changes, identify and champion process improvement opportunities, work to improve process yields, and interface with operations management
  • Review and oversee project schedules and costs
  • Facilitate the effective allocation of team resources in ways to support the oversight of the foundry processes, assist in identifying future capital investment needs, and foster open communication between functional teams
  • Work with the department manager on manpower and resource planning, controlling overhead costs, developing and delivering employee performance reviews, and developing/reviewing proposals
  • Support management at the department, directorate, and functional leadership levels

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior work experience OR a Master’s in STEM and 7 years of prior work experience OR a PhD in STEM and 4 years of prior work experience
  • Experience in semiconductor processing or process integration
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Value:

  • A Master’s degree or PhD. in a Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Field
  • Experience working with GaAs and/or GaN semiconductor processes
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process control and related SPC software
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Customer focus and collaboration skills
  • Project scheduling and management experience
  • Cost Account Manager experience and/or Task Leadership experience
  • Previous experience with a defense contractor and/or government agency.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
