Position Summary

The Data Engineer is a critical role focused on building and optimizing our data pipeline architecture, as well as supporting data initiatives across Crane ChemPharma and Energy. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in data engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines that ensure the availability and quality of data for analytics and business intelligence purposes.

As our Data Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from various sources. You will also be responsible for ensuring data integrity and consistency, as well as supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. Principle Duties
  • Apply industry-accepted data architecture principles for modelling, stored procedures, replication, security, and compliance to meet both technical and business objectives.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric components such as Lakehouse, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Data Warehouses, Notebooks, and Dataflows.
  • Data Extraction - Develop and implement solutions to integrate, process, and analyse large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • Work with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions.
  • Optimize and troubleshoot data pipelines to ensure reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Implement best practices for data governance and security to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor and maintain data infrastructure to ensure high availability and scalability.
  • Stay current with advancements in data engineering and Microsoft Fabric technologies.
  • Develop technology architecture strategies informed by various business scenarios and motivations.
  • Assess emerging technology trends and provide guidance on their potential impact on organizational opportunities and risks.
  • Continuously enhance the quality, consistency, accessibility, and security of data across the company.
  • Manage the Data Platform roadmap, ensuring future-proofing, capacity planning, and optimization.
  • Collaborate with the IT Operations team and BI vendors to resolve production issues.
  • Manage stakeholder demands and prioritize reporting requirements and needs.
  • Maintain relationships with key vendors to plan and adapt the Data Platform roadmap and leverage existing capabilities.
  • Monitor Data Platform usage, deprecate unused reports and datasets, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Work with users to address data issues, trace data lineage, and implement data cleansing and quality processes.
  • Manage secure access to data sets for the business.
  • Ensure effective collaboration with BI vendors, IT, and business teams.
  • Manage project schedules, focus on critical path items, define and communicate key milestones, and coordinate with the broader team for tollgate reviews.
  • Monitor and report on emerging technologies, seeking opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to data visualization and data modelling processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Manage data sets and work with ETL and Data Warehouse solutions.
  • Launch and drive a data literacy program for business users.
  • Follow CBS processes and toolkits to achieve operational excellence.
  • Submit weekly reports on the progress of assigned tasks.
  • Follow project directives from IT leadership and ensure compliance with IT policies and regulations.
Essential Qualifications / Experience
  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • 8years of experience managing data infrastructure, including Data Warehouses and Data Marts.
  • 8years of experience with Power BI and SQL; No-SQL experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in data pipeline tools such as Azure Data Factory, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Python.
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage and communicate data warehouse plans to internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining data processing systems.

Desirable Qualifications / Experience
  • 5years of experience designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models using enterprise data modelling tools on the Azure cloud platform.
  • Proven track record in assessing and enhancing system portfolios to improve efficiency and performance.
  • Self-starter with the ability to learn new technologies, perform proof of concepts, conduct assessments, and lead agile pilots to full production solutions.
  • Independent thinker with the capability to make technical decisions autonomously.

  • Experience in addressing visualization, reporting, and analytics needs through the development of presentation and data models.

  • Experience with Python, SQL, relational databases, and data warehousing technologies, including SQL, SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Power BI, Power Query, and DAX.
