Payroll Accountant | Contract to hire | Charlotte, NC

The Payroll Coordinator is responsible for preparing and posting payroll information. Readies and maintains various accounting papers, schedules, statements, and records. Aids in calculating accurate wages and depositing the amounts in employees' bank accounts or issuing checks. Handles the processing of payroll information associated with newly hired employees, terminated employees, wage verification, withholding allowances, pay rate changes, status changes, benefit deductions, payroll garnishments, and direct deposits. Responds to all payroll inquiries and requests by employees and other internal and external users of payroll data, research and troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, and resolve payroll-related issues, including wages, salaries, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, and taxes.

Core Experience:

+ 3+ years of full-cycle payroll and accounting experience

+ Experience with accounts payable and basic accounting functions

+ Experience with multi-state, multi-pay frequency and processing 401k Benefits

+ Experience with ERP systems (Viewpoint) and Excel pivot tables, v look-ups, sort & filter, subtotals, import/export

Responsibilities of this Role:

+ Process payroll for a multi-state, multi-pay frequency environment ensuring it is accurate, compliant, and timely making all associated entries and adjustments in ADP Vantage

+ Process and maintain all court-ordered or tax-levied wage garnishments and submit payment for states including online payments.

+ Prepare and provide reports to accounts payable for non-online payments.

+ Reviews payroll procedures and ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.

+ Ensures payroll records are maintained in accordance with company policies and federal and state regulations. Reviewing regularly for updates and acting as needed

+ Process 401(K) payment via vendor website

+ Complete agency inquiries related to DSS forms and child support

+ Performs routine and non-routine data retrieval, research, analysis, and reporting of payroll records including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reporting as well as general ledger support for reconciliations and adjustments.

+ Solve problems concerning payroll, answer inquiries, and enforce payroll policies. This includes responding to questions regarding the employee self-service website

+ Answering incoming calls or emails pertaining to payroll, garnishments, 401K, W2s etc.
