Employee Status: The DMS reports to the President/ CEO, and is an exempt, full-time position. As a full-time employee the DMS is eligible to receive all the Chamber’s benefits. The position will have limited supervisory duties over other staff members.
About the Chamber: The Meridian Chamber of Commerce is a membership organization, supported by member investment and the committed involvement of leaders in our business community. The Chamber provides ways to become involved in the community through leadership opportunities, business advocacy, networking, and promotion of individual businesses.
Mission Statement: “Business Friendly, Community Connected and Family Focused”
General Description: The Director of Member Services (DMS) is a critical management position on the Meridian Chamber of Commerce team. The DMS is responsible for all functions of the chamber’s membership including the recruitment of new members, retention of existing members, the management of the leadership development, downtown, and ambassador committees, and the sale of sponsorships to members.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Management of membership budget forecasting, development, and execution.
- Direct management of the leadership development, downtown, and ambassador committees.
- Prospect and qualify leads and conduct sales presentations resulting in new members.
- Responsible for membership billing, revenue, and collections, and will supervise other chamber staff in these activities.
- Solicit sponsorship and advertising opportunities in conjunction with annual sponsorship program opportunities.
- Coordination of member activities in conjunction with chamber events.
- Provide the Marketing and Communications Coordinator with timely information related to new members, existing members, committee events and Ambassador activities for inclusion in Chamber newsletters, press releases, and external communications.
- Represent the chamber at community events, functions, and meetings.
- Prepare weekly/monthly membership reports.
- Maintain accurate records in membership database.
- Staff chamber events and programs as appropriate.
- All other duties as may be required.
Membership Development: It is the responsibility of the DMS to grow membership revenue and increase total membership of the Meridian Chamber of Commerce. The DMS, in partnership with the President/CEO and other staff will need to develop and implement a member recruitment and retention strategy that can be utilized across the organization to grow total membership. The DMS will also be responsible for membership recruitment, a minimum of new member sales per month as outlined by the President/CEO in the annual budget.
Retention: It will be the responsibility of the DMS to work with the President/CEO and other staff to ensure accurate implementation of the retention program and track results. Additionally, the DMS will be the staff liaison to the leadership development, downtown, and ambassador committees and work with volunteers wherever appropriate to achieve the retention goals of the organization.
Sponsorship: It will be the responsibility of the DMS to manage sponsorship sales & relationships maximizing relationships and providing excellent return of member investments.
Events: It will be the responsibility of the DMS to build engagement of chamber members in conjunction with the chamber’s signature events with the support of the other staff members.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor degree preferred. Some college coursework in business, communications, sales, marketing, or related fields is a plus.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an outside sales role, with demonstrated sales results. Prefer individuals with experience in nonprofit membership driven organizations.
- Some travel required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Customer Service & Relationship Management – able to personally provide a high level of interactive service to membership base, building relationships and a referral network within Meridian and the Treasure Valley.
- Team Orientation & Interpersonal – highly motivated, team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships.
- Communication – able to effectively express self verbally and in writing, using correct language and grammar in a professional manner.
- Marketing – Strong creative, and personal sales skills with demonstrated skills in the design and execution of marketing activities.
- Organization & Time Management – able to work independently with minimal supervision and a high degree of self-motivation and self-direction. Able to handle multiple priorities with strong attention to detail.
- Sales Results – proven ability to achieve a high level of success signing on new members/investors and retaining current members.
- Systems & Software – proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Ethics:
The Director of Members Services represents the Meridian Chamber of Commerce in the field. Professional sales ethics must always be adhered to. Grounds for termination of this position includes the use of improper sales ethics or the falsification of paperwork.
ADA Requirements:
- Frequent mobility and/or sitting for extended periods of time
- Manual dexterity for using office equipment and computer keyboard
- Some bending and stooping required
- Able to lift 25 lbs. without difficulty
- Occasional stress from dealing with busy office environment
- Physically capable of speaking and listening
- Physically capable of reading and reviewing written communication
Other Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license and is typically required to furnish own transportation to Chamber events and meetings.
- Must be available to work flexible hours - may include evenings and/or weekends. Full-time (40 hours or more per week, primarily Monday through Friday 8 AM – 5 PM)
Compensation Plan
Job Type: Full-time/In-person
Pay: $70,000 to $80,000 Range (combination of salary, commissions, bonuses)
